Thought about taking just 2 days off, a week off, turned in to a month.... then more (can't remember my last post here... DOH!). lol

I am back now and running a little different program (5k-101) but want to get back to 5k-land... a little harder program so far, but I have been trying to keep to 10 min/mile during the run portion... will need to slow up a little (maybe)

You are and will always be an inspiration to all of us. You have tenacity on your side, why else would you post here? You still have that spark!

I had gotten down to 212 lbs over 2 years ago and decided to take a couple days off (19months too much). I have crept back up 225 as of yesterday. I woke up @ 4:30 am today and had a run... I am a bit worn, but it is a good feeling of worn.

I had always suffered from shin-splint,s even in my military days. I went to the local running store (privately owned) and they did a video look at the way I ran and set out a number of the "type" of shoe they said I would need (heavy pronator). So the price range for the shoes they brought out were from $58-$126 and said try each of them on (4 different brands) and pick the one that felt best to me. I paid retail, but it has been worth it.... no foot/shin issues in 2 years, On my second set of the same shoe....

You CAN do this..... you WILL do this!

So here is my belated 5k report:

Morning was pretty cold in the low 20's when we left the house. This was the inagural year of the Veterans 5k. It was in honor of Capt. Jason Galus. His father spoke and thanked everyone for showing up.

We get there, sign in was a breeze. There were only 90 people that ran it. National Anthem was sang beautifully. We went over to the starting line, and were off. My 13 year old took out pretty quick. I could see him but he was 300+ meters ahead of me. The first mile was great. Mr. Galus (Jason's dad) had pulled along side of me. We chatted a bit as we were both in the Navy. I had my bright NAVY shirt on. I tried to thank every volunteer at each turn. They all were cheering us on.... "Looking great NAVY, Keep it going!" I love being singled out for motivation. My boy lost a bit of steam and walked until I cought up to him about mile 2. He said he didn''t have much motivation to keep him going. I asked if the cute 20 something he was following dropped him.... he said ya. About .5 miles from the end he picks up his pace and I just wanted to finish. I sprinted the last 200 meters or so. His time was 32:43, mine was 33:32. As I crossed the finish line, they called my name and thanked me for serving my country..... that was a really nice touch. I was 9/10 in my age group, but near the 70% of finishers. I met both of my goals of running it in less than 35 and not stopping or walking. It was a great time.

Here is a pic of us "boys" after the run..... BTW my youngest wanted to run it.... in his snow boots. I'll see if he wants to run the turkey trot with us. I am pretty sure he can do it.

A culmination of running since April. My first 5k in the books. I felt great. I'll have to write up a better race report tomorrow or Monday, a good time and touching as well.

I didn't break any records but I did meet/exceed both of my goals.

1. Run the entire race without walking - Status - ACCOMPLISHED

2. Finish with a time of 35 minutes or less - Status - ACCOMPLISHED (unofficial time of 33:32!)

I didn't run with music today. I wanted to see what it was like. I know that making a change from training is bad, but I like the result. My pace was incredibly stabil, according to Nike+. The most stabil it has been outside... almost dreadmill stabil....

I now have a pretty clear path of what I am going to do next... It coincides with my next goal..... A sub 28:00 5k!

To do this I am going to do C25k over again and add an extra long run day to it (run 4 days per week). So back to intervals!!! This time working on pushing the speed. Probably back to running each week with intervals twice again too, worked great the first time!

Turkey Trot is in 2 weeks.

All the best to each of you starting, and continued success to all those about to finish C25k!

Then B210k or OHR. I could pick up on week 3 OHR right after the Trot... I am contemplating Travis' 1/2 because that would be a cool bumper sticker (13.1)!!!

Like Yoga, I have aspirations of a tri. I am looking at some sprint distance one now. I can walk if needed, I can pedal slowly, but I do not want to drown. I have little time in a lap pool...

I feel like I can complete any one of these now. I found DRIVE within me. Who knew it was there all along.... Of course you all did!

________________________________________________

So I awoke to 3" of snow this morning.... Hahahaha. I am sooo glad I ran last night.
