Guess I let the "I'm going to treat myself for a couple of weeks after training so hard" last a little too long

I'm hoping to find someone who likes exercise, feels good after sweating, and wants to email daily exercise regiments and diet plans back and forth to help with the motivation part of weight loss. I'm the type of person who is more successful when I feel accountable to someone other than just myself. I'm 34 years old, 5'5", weigh 169 lbs, have no problem working out every day, and can diet better when I have a buddy to chat about with it. My longterm goal is to lose 30 lbs. and my short term goal is to enjoy my running again. I like kickboxing classes, and just about any type of cardio there is. I live in Arizona....not that it makes any difference, but I guess my advantage is to sweat more in our lovely 100+ degree weather LOL

I'm starting tomorrow as soon as I drop my daughter off at kindergarten and I hope someone joins me!

Jacqueline

With no decent sleep and being a bag of nerves, I did better than I could've ever hoped. The crowds motivate you and you'll do great...plus you are experienced. Good luck and trust me it'll be a good race for you!

Jacqueline

Then things were again good until mile 10 when I literally had a chat with myself that went like this "Come on you BLEEP BLEEP you've trained for 12 weeks for this, LET's GO!" By this time it was sunny and about 70 out. Then I started to see the stadium and hords of people and actually sped up a little. I saw my kiddo with her "go mommy" sign and my Mama and got all corny tearty-eyed b/c I realized HOLY SH*T I did it!

I did take my own water and fuel stuff and then halfway thru the race started going to the water lines....next time I will be comfy without my own stuff.......and there will definetely be a next time b/c I am soooooooooooooooo excited and wanting to beat my time. I predicted 2h30m when I signed up to push myself since I am a snail pacer by nature LOL AND I actually beat my time by a few minutes which I've never done training!

Thank you for all of the amazing help, support, advice, and friendship you've given to me! I couldn't have done this without your help and am quite grateful to you....I cannot wait until I sign up for my next one and beat my own personal clock! I obviously have pix of me with my LOVELY medal that I will post on here to show you. OMG I freaking did it! Thank you times a zillion and also for posting to me! I logged on to gloat to you and found that your thoughtfulness beat me! You're awesome!

So what are you working on sir?

Love,

Jacqueline

Can someone please help with mileage?

So I've been using a training plan for my half marathon on 1/18/09. I had to modify it a little b/c I had 14 weeks and the plan was for 10 weeks. The idea of tapering scares me b/c I'm literally afraid I'll forget how to go further when the race is here LOL Can you tell I'm new? I'll list the past couple of weeks and then the last few. Can someone please help me determine if it is correct mileage-wise or if I need to modify it?

My long run day is Fridays....and the past 4 weeks I've done 10, 11, 12, and then again 12 miles(yesterday) in that order. My remaining run schedule is as follows (the numbers listed under the days of the week are in miles):

Sun Mon Tues Wed Thurs Fri Sat

week of 12/21 (4) (XT) (4) (5) (rest) (11) (rest)

week of 12/28 (4) (XT) (4) (5) (rest) (10) (rest)

week of 1/4 (4) (XT) (4) (4) (rest) (8) (rest)

week of 1/11 (3) (30walk) (3) (3) (rest) (2/2run/walk) (rest)

week of 1/11 RACE

So is my mileage too little or too much? Based on what I wrote do you think I'm prepared? I have felt good minus my right arch hurting yesterday aftr my 12-miler I iced it and it feels better today! Thank you for all of the help!

Jacqueline

I had the data in a nice pretty table format, BUT even after I edited my post it became all scrunched up.......I hope it makes sense The 1st number is Sunday and the last refers to Saturday...how aggravating!

Message was edited by: Jacqueline102

I then will truly believe it wasn't a fluke!

Mark--I admit that maybe just maybe the caffeine kicked in a little, but oh yucky! I have 2 flavors of Gu at home (green apple and raspberry something)and also sports beans. I shall try these over the next couple weeks on longer runs and see what they're like. I logically know that we need fuel, but I'm hoping to find a tolerableone and if not I will stick to real food and hope for the best. I also want to try to find cytomax since that is what they're using at my race. All in all I still say the shot blocks were a heck of a distraction b/c 1.5 miles passed without my acknowledging it just being busy trying to spit it out

Joel--thank you sir! It feels really nice to be encouraged...I truly appreciate it!

Dennis--my hero Thank you again and I still can't believe it! I'll look for that hammer stuff as well b/c I figure there has to be something out there that I don't dislike. Normally, I love to eat everything as long as there are no mushrooms in it so this shouldn't be so hard! I'm sorry I missed your trip to AZ. Did you get to run? I have to say I live in an area VERY conducive to training thru the winter months. It's a tad chilly in the morning, but compared to say Minnesota it's perfect. You better take me up on my offer when you next visit my neck of the woods. So I have to tell ya that the first day after my only sore-isms were a toe and a little muscle fatigue, BUT then yesterday my shins were a lil unhappy. I have stretched galore and am trying for take 2 on Friday. Today was 4miles and tomorrow is 5 miles, but I'm awaiting Friday after being well fueled from turkey day My hubby said I can just run to where ever and he'd come fetch me which sounds fun! Only used to running large circles in the area.

Mike--Your story is incredible! It must've been so special to finish with your Dad by your side like that. My crystal ball sees Boston under 4 in your near horizon. Thank you for the mileage vs. time tip! I so very love all the advice you seasoned runners give me the newbie! My goal for this time is to finish proud and all running my half. I wrote 2:45 on my registration form b/c I had no idea, but I may just do better than that....we shall see This is a personal goal and has nothing to do with a clock....this time anyway! I plan to keep training b/c it really makes me feel good about me!

Timeout--Congratulations my cyber-running partner on your 10 miler! I promise I know how great you felt I'll try several other fuelthing and Gu things, etc and let you know if I find a yummy or at least tolerable one. Please do the same if you find something. I listed above the other stuff already awaiting tasting in my pantry. I'm going for my next long run Friday, so I hope you cyber join me again....and mostly CONGRATULATIONS!!! Good luck to you in your training.
