Re: I need help with being explosive

hey man. I am about ur height (5'4) and i had the same problem last year. I bought a bunch of DVD's that helped my game out and one of them hand a drill that completely helped my explosiveness. You use a tennis ball and a basketball (You can use a partner, but you can do it by yourself). Dribble the ball in one hand and have the tennis ball in the other. Drop the tennis ball maybe a footaway from yourself and let it bounce once. Before it bounces again, quickly crossover to the other hand and pick the tennis ball out of the air with your free hand (Make sure the ball is actually far enough so that you have to move to catch it). This is simulating you quickly crossing over and protecting the ball from the defenders hand. If your doing this drill the right way, it helps you be more explosive and helps your crossover get quicker. If you have any questions, just reply back to this. hope i could help

How to handle gametime pressure?

Hi guys. I'm a 5'4 point guard. I started off 2 years ago playing one-on-one at home and right now I am unguardable one on one: I have handles, shot, and amazing finishes. my only problem is when i joined the team this year I had a hard time transitioning to real game 5-on-5. The pressure would get to me where i wouldn't no what to do. I usually plan my moves, either jump-shot or getting to the basket, but in real game, the pressure just gets to me. My coach knows how good i am at one-on-one, but he also knows i struggle with 5-on-5. If anyone has any good tips about anything that you think will help with getting over the pressure, scoring, passing, anything that will make me a better scorer/player, please post. Thanks in advance.

If you work as hard as you can, you can be just as good as some playyers who have been playing since they were 8! Thats just an example but it could happen!
Finishing at the basket?

Hi! I'm a 5'4 pointguard and it's my offseason now so I've decide to really work on my game. This year I got all my points from open jumpshots and fast break layups, and didnt get that many points. Now, I'll be the oldest PG so i want to secure my role as the starter. So i just wanted to know if you guys had any tips on finishing at the rim? We play against 2-3 zones so i can beat the man up top, but the help defense gets to me and im forced to take bad shots/passes. Any tips on how to finish against big men waiting to block your shot? or anything you think that can help? Anyway thanks alot in advance!

Point Guard Tips vs. a 2-3 Zone Defense?

Like how to drive in after beating the man up top, but the big man in the back is waiting for you? Any tips? or how to make good passes? Any go to moves you guys use that help you out a lot? I like to use the pull-up but i have a tendency to over shoot when someone is in my face, but i am deadly from midrange and closer uncovered. Anyways, thanks in advance!

Hi. I am going to be the starting point guard next year (since i am the oldest and the new younger players aren't that great) and I'm going to be 5'4-5'5 by then. My question is how to score and pass on a 2-3 zone. I know it's hard to drive in on that zone so jumpers are more often used, but i want to know how to score utilizing all aspects of the game: Passing, Shooting, Layups, etc. I was thinking of using pull-up jumpers more, so any advice on that would help also. So, thank in advance. If you guys have any good links you can post them. Thanks alot guys!

How To Finish Over Taller Defenders?

I play in my middle-school league. I'm 5'3, which is short, I can shot the lights out in mid-range. I can usually finish layups when its a defender my size or slightly taller, but when i blow past my defender the help side defense which is usually the center or the power forward comes and closes the lane. I've tried tear-dropping it in, but it resulted in airballs and bricks. any advice?

Shooting & Dribbling Questions

Well I'm a point guard, and i've been playing for about a year and i've gotten pretty good. I'm already better than 3/4s of my schools Varsity team. My question is how to beat a defender who is taller than you but just slightly slower but has long enough arms to block you from behind. I ask this because i always play my older brother who always beats me, and he's nice and all but i wanna eventually beat him. I can occasionally beat him of my quick crosover, but he knows its coming some times. And the only other ways i can beat him is of triple-threat and a step back jumper, but only sometimes. Any tips? and I also struggle shooting over outstreched arms, i know thats implied, but i just wanted to know if you guys had any special tips or anything. Thanks alot
