Returning after a stress fracture- help!!!

Actually wound up breaking all the way through and healed a bit crooked because I biked on it for a month before the xray even showed the break (not enough that they wanted to rebreak and do surgery). Anyway- Break occurred 2nd week of November and I was put in a cast 1st week of December and it came off 2 days before Christmas which was the 5 week mark. I am now into 9 weeks of healing. I went for a walk a few days ago and noticed that my toes go numb. Jogged maybe a 10th of a mile just to see what the foot would do. Anyone experience the numb toes? Is that normal? How long should I realistically wait to try to add a little jogging back in? Thanks!

I miss you all! I am SO busy working it is not even funny. I missed my brothers birthday on Monday because I totally forgot while I was at work! BAD sister. lol I am really enjoying my new job even though I am working really long hours right now (64 last week!). I know it is going to get better when I get my new people in and can get the vault organized. I have been keeping up with my running ok. I have been getting in 3 days a week- about 20 miles. I am going to start increasing my mileage again soon. I ran 6 yesterday and I am planning on running 6 again tomorrow.

I have been challenged by my District Manager this week. He knows I am "a crazy runner" (his words! LOL) so his idea on Monday was that if I train and run the Chicago Marathon in October he will pay for my flight, etc....so I can go train at our Brinks Chicago Branch then run the race. HOW could I say NO?! So as of this morning I am signed up for Chicago. So now I have 6 months 3 weeks to get ready- PLEASE tell me this is more than enough time?! I have been thinking about it and I think it is enough.

Joe- Nice 2 miler! Sorry that your footpod sucks!

Cara- Great 5.5!

Sue- Glad you got some strength training in at the hotel. A 10k will be perfect before your 1/2 Marathon.

Meg- Hope you feel better soon!

Chuck- Great run! Sorry on the blisters.

Runjr- Great Run!!!

Spice- Great 4 miler! I hate when I wake up late. (which seems to be all the time now lol)

Macd- How can you talk yourself out of cookies?! lol Great 3.7.

I will try to check in more often when I don't get out of work at 2am!

Happy Running!!!

I started work on Wed and as soon as I walked in the door was told that 3 of my people quit on Monday so we were short handed and it was the day after a holiday. Talk about rediculous! Plus this is a new industry for me so I have a huge learning curve to overcome before I can get in there and straighten up my department. Worked 11 hours on day 1 and the vault wasn't even closed when I left that night! They were in there until 6am yesterday morning!

Anyway- Got in a 6 mile run yesterday before work. I was going to do some yoga today but I scrapped that so I could take ds to McDonalds for breakfast and hang out for a little while. This is the first time I have left him to work because I have worked at home for the last 3 years. I am going to have a lovely rest day tomorrow as well (may do Yoga) but I have a 5k race on Sunday that I am looking forward to!

Cara- Parades were fun but it was HOT Mardi Gras day so we didn't stay long. I'll have to post pics of little DS. He dressed up like a pirate to go to the parades and caught all the beads!

I'll catch up with shoutouts tomorrow because I have to go get ready for work!

Happy running!!!

Today I am running 4 after we get back from some parades this afternoon. Tomorrow I will do a Yoga video and ride the bike before work.

Runlong- Great 5 on Sunday! I have done a little research and I can't find one that I really like so I am just going to stick with RW for now. YAY. I started running again last week. I ran 1.5, 2, 3, and I am running 4 today at some point when it is less windy. I wish I could have checked in at some point last week but I have been helping my husband do some renovations for one of his customers. I found a job too!!!! I start at the New Orleans Branch at Brinks, Inc. on Wednesday. I can't believe I found a job so quickly! I think I am going to go ahead and start a 10k training plan this week to get ready for the Crescent City Classic on April 11.

Joe- Have a great rest day!

Sue- Way to go on your long run! Still no running here. The pain in my left foot is now only below the ankle bone on the side/top of the foot. Not sure what that could be. I am probably going to call the Dr to make an appt for Friday. It only hurts when I am walking. Doesn't hurt at all when I am sitting and I have been bike riding and having no issues doing that. I am super bummed that I can't run but at least it is AFTER my 1/2 and I don't have another race until I do a dualathon at the end of March and a 10k the beginning of April.

I see everyone else is doing great!!! No shoutouts- been too busy to get on because I am job searching. So far I have only had 1 or 2 leads so we'll see.... On the plus side I did re-activate my substitute teaching availability and sent in my paperwork to renew my teaching certification so I can go back to coaching PE in the Fall!

Happy Running!

I went to the podiatrist and it was Plantar fasciitis. My tight calves caused my arch to get inflammed. Ice/stretch/anti inflammatories. You should be able to kick it pretty quickly if you get started on the stretching and icing asap! I do recommend that if the inflammation doesn't start to go away that you get back to the podiatrist! Check out the stretching tips, etc.... on PF. I had my PF when I first hit the 4 mile mark last October and by November I was managing the PF and running. I am very glad to say that I kicked its butt and was able to run my 1/2 Marathon on Feb 1 with no foot pain at all! You can do it!

Been pretty busy here- My birthday was yesterday- Big 27! LOL I got to go watch the Hornets get their butts kicked last night. You think they could've won for my bday... Anyway- my legs were pretty sore on Monday. By Tuesday I was doing good so I put on my old running shoes and went to work with DH on one of our renovation projects. Boy am I sorry I did that! I am not sure if it is because I just finished my 1/2 and shouldn't have been on my feet all day or if it was the shoes or combo of both but I have some inflammation below my outer ankle bone of my left foot and the more I walk the More it HURTS and starts to hurt under the outside of my foot as well. In fact, right now it hurts in the bottom of my heel. It kind of feels like PF but I am not sure. Last time I had PF it was all in the Arch and not at the heel or on the outside of the foot at all. Right now I am p*ssed because I can't believe that I made it through training and race day only to be hurting now because of those stinking crappy shoes! Does this sound like PF to you guys?

Guess I'll be doing some cross training starting this weekend and get back to running once I get the inflammation kicked! I am now totally hooked and wish they had more 1/2's in my neck of the woods! Planning on a 5k March 1 and a 10k April11. Plus on March 14 our group is taking a day trip to some trails and going to do a 10 mile trail loop- I think I am more excited to do that than either of the races!

Mary- GREAT race!
