Finished in 38.48 which I was seriously chuffed with considering the blistering heat of the day. I was in the middle of the pack too so that was good. Think I'll maybe take a week just casual running and then maybe start the bridge to 10k program next week, so back to intervals It's supposed to get cooler later this week too which will be nice, running in heat is a challenge for me since i'm used to rain most of the time. Already planning my next races too

Thanks everyone! My ankle has stopped aching so I went for a gentle run yesterday of 2.5 miles in my cheapo trainers and it feels great again Terranns I think your right with the 1170 being too much of a drop. My trainers are very flat and have a thin sole which I have been used to since I started running so my feet and calves would appear to like that. I also noticed when I run in them I land midfoot rather than heel. Definately going to follow mizjean's advice and keep using these for the time being and sell the 1170's. Maybe when they are trashed I will look into getting a lightweight pair of flats or have a look at those suggested above.

Thanks for your help

Lightweight Shoes

Hey all,

Hoping someone can help me. I have not been running long and originally I was just wearing cheap trainers with barely any cushioning to them. Having got addicted I went and got advised and purchased a proper pair of running shoes (Asics 1170) but since starting to run with them my right leg, particularly my ankle and shin are aching. It's not sore but more of a consistent cramp feeling, which comes on after about 20 minutes running. I had no problems in the basic trainers.

Now obviously I need to rest up my leg for a few days (my first race is on Saturday) but I don't really want to go back to the Asics afterward and was thinking about going back to my other trainers and getting something new and more comparitable to those. Can someone suggest a more lightweight running shoe for me to try?

Thanks

OMG! I tried my race route yesterday and it was horrible there was a massive hill and it pretty much killed me. So after feeling miserable for a while I brushed myself off and went out again today to give W8D1 another go, this time having mapped a nice loop which included a steep hill in it. I focued on getting in as many loops as I could in the time and I managed 5 plus the run there and back home, which totalled 40 minutes. So I checked my GPS when I got home and my grand total distance is....5.53 KM! Cannot believe it! I was so focused on just getting up the hill to care about the distance. Now I'm feeling ready for my race a week on Saturday and just for giggles it started to snow about 3/4 of a mile away from home, I had no problem running home then

Keep it up guys, the feelings amazing xx

Well a terrible weekend feeling rubbish led to an absolutely horrible W7D1 run yesterday in hindsight I probably shouldn't have gone, but I felt like I was skipping class or something lol. Felt miles better today so I decided to ditch the C25K app on my phone and just go for a slow run and see how it felt and how far I could manage. My theory being that if I had the app playing I would have felt the need to push to finish it even if I was feeling rubbish, but without it I wasn't loosing anything if I had to stop.

Worked wonders at a VERY slow pace I squeezed in 4.5km in 40 minutes (inc time to cross a couple of roads) Thats the longest time I've run and the farthest distance so extremely happy with myself and since it was over the 25 mins I am counting that as W7D2 lol

Toni thanks for the support I'm really looking forward to it, I just need to manage to navigate the hills lol

xx
