Enjoy beautiful Dalhousie at our new vacation rental cottage, located on the exclusive Bakrota Hills with breathtaking vistas of the valley and the Pir Panjal range. A wonderful location for a quiet vacation of walks, treks, mountain & forest trails, mountain air, cook-outs, rejuvenation, meditation and relaxation.

The Cottage sleeps 4+2 between 2 bedrooms and a den with a pull-out bed. There is a lovely fireplace in the living area, a dining area and a kitchen, a patio and a front garden with a barbecue, a tandoor and a back orchard with apple trees. Good vibrations and a nice ambience. The Cottage is pet friendly.

The Cottage is fully furnished with beddings, Cable TV, DVD, music system, fridge, gas range, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans, microwave, water filter etc. Help is available on request.

The Cottage is fully furnished and can be rented for Daily/Weekly or on a Monthly basis :

Besides Chamba, Dalhousie is a 4 hour mountain drive away from Dharamshala, the Headquarters of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Kangra valley, resplendent with its many old temples and streams. On the north of Dalhousie is the famous state of Jammu & Kashmir and en-route, the famous Shrine of the mother Goddess Vaishno Devi, a five hour drive away.

In and around Dalhousie, the places of interest would be the forest reserves of Kala-tope (5km), Khajjair - the meadow resort (12km), Dain-kund - a ridge trail at 9,000 ft en-route to a temple shrine (7km), besides many lovely forest and mountain walks around the area. It stands on the Lake Naukuchiatal and affords an out standing view of the vast expanse of the lake. We have fully furnished kitchen for those who enjoy cooking themselves. There are two bed rooms on first floor and a huge sit out. There is satelite TV on both the floors. There also is a Sound system should you want to listen your music from any auxiliary device like phone or ipod.

The ground floor has the drawing, dining kitchen and veranda. The cottage has a beautiful landscaped garden. We cater to a variety of cuisine as per your desire, Veg and Non Veg. Alcohol is not served. So why stay in separate rooms in a hotel when you can have all comforts of home under the same roof and stay as a family.

How to reach

A word about the place first. Naukuchiatal is located at a distance of 24 km from Kathgodam, which is the nearest Rail head. Kathgodam is well connected by train from Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow and Jammu. Once at Kathgodam, the route is via Bhimtal for Naukuchiatal. After getting down at Kathgodam, taxi can be organized in advance if there is prior information. One can also drive down. Please refer to the map for further clarity.

Emily Lodge Nainital - Nainital Emily Lodge

Emily Lodge was built in 1864 by a gun toting, whiskey guzzling Englishman by the name of Dr. Stevens, we know this for sure as it was bought by the present owner Mr. C.K.Singh in 1969 and along with the house came all the antiques and an even more antiquated and grizzled old codger named Dan Singh. Dan Singh was the gardener and had served under Dr. Stevens as a young man, he had fantastic tales to tell of ?the good old days?. He spoke of fabulous hunting trips with the then middle aged doctor who if Dan Singh is to be believed shot up more of the flora than the fauna proving the saying ? gun powder and alcohol do not mix? right. Dr. Stevens also happened to be a friend of the famous hunter of man eating tigers and leopards Jim Corbett as they were neighbours and shared their love of the outdoors.

Jim Corbett?s house called Gurney House is just below Emily Lodge and can be seen clearly from the garden. Some of the trophies that adorn Emily Lodge were given to the doc by Jim himself and the others he must have shot by accident ! The best part though about this place is that it is cradled in a dense oak thicket, pristine oak trees that have never been cut and thick jungles surround the house and you would never know that town was just ten minutes away. Beautiful paths cut across the forest and you can to this day see barking deer known as ? kakar? scampering about, the sudden flutter of wings as a bunch of ?kaleej? pheasant take flight and the shuffling of the ?peora? partridge now living without fear of an old doc with bloodshot eyes and whiskey on his breath trying to make life miserable for them with his twelve gauge shotgun.

Emily Lodge is a home away from home giving the feeling of British taste and style. The furniture ,dinning hall, house design, guns etc are all from the Colonial Era. Situated in lush green dense Oak forests of Ayarpatta Nainital. The present owner has tried to maintain Emily Lodge which is among the oldest British houses, just as the doctor left it changing only what could not be salvaged and of course constructing modern bathrooms as the British only had wooden commodes which were cleaned each day. All five bedrooms have antique beds and accompanying furniture all dating back to the 1860's. There is a large drawing room with a fireplace that still works and a dining room with a grand carved rosewood dining table.

Advance Booking of Safari

Maximum 6 persons can accommodate in one gypsy with one government guide. There is a limit in the number of gypsies that can enter the forest in a day. Therefore we advice you to book gypsy safari in advance. Morning safari can be booked in advance. Evening safari can not be booked in advance and has to be taken at the spot on first come first serve basis.

To make advance booking, names, age and gender of all persons is required. Also ID card number of any one member, per gypsy is required, who with ID card will accompany at the time of going to safari.

For Foreigners Name, age, gender, passport number and nationality are required for all the guests, visiting in one gypsy.
