RR - San Antonio Marathon - 11/14/2010

We finished our 24th marathon / ultra for this year in San Antonio last Sunday.

Over 27,000 finished this race, only 4500 marathoners, more than 20,000 half and relay runners. I finished 814th overall, 149th female out of 1921, 10th age group out of 220 with a time of 3:53 hrs. This was also my189th marathon. This year the race was very well organized, aid stations every mile as well as timing clock on every mile marker.

The best part of this race is I got to run with my brother which has been training hard to run his 3rd marathon. We started with 2nd coral and ran 8 minute miles for first 11 miles, slowed down for the rest of the marathon. He started wanting to walk some of the hills and I kept pushing him and encouraging him to try to finish under 4 hours. The last mile of the race the cramp I have been having on my leg started to catch up with me and slowed me down a bet. This time he was the one pushing me to get going!

Union Pacific train interrupted the the marathon at first couple of miles and made thousands of runner delay between 3 - 8 minutes they had to delay most of the corals until trained passed. This didn't effect the elite runners.

Whether was nice, race was organized and my brother's positive attitude made a perfect marathon.

This was also the 8th of nine consecutive we have scheduled:

1- Clarence Demar Marathon, Keene, NH - 09/26/2010 - 3:50
2- West Texas Cross Roads Marathon Odessa, TX - 10/02/2010 - 4:00

3- Tyler Rose Marathon, Tyler TX - 10/10/2010 - 3:53

4- Cherokee Road Runners Louisville Marathon KY - 10/17/2010 - 3:52

5- Frankenthon Marathon, Cedar Park, TX - 10/23/2010 - 4:02

6- Marathoning for Miracles, Abilene, TX - 10/30/2010 - 3:50

7- National Geographic Visitor Center Grand Canyon Marathon - 11/06/2010 - 4:14

8- San Antonio Marathon - 11/14/2010 - 3:53

9- Wildhare 50 Mile Trail, Warda TX - 11/20/2010

This weekend is Wildhare 50 Mile Trail run 70 miles out side Austin on bike course. We ran this last year and it was a great feeling to overcome all obstacles and finish.

We finished the our 22nd and 23rd marathon / ultra for this year in Abilene, TX and Grand Canyon in last two weeks.

Marathoning for Miracles, Abilene, TX - 10/30/2010

There was only 54 marathoners, a few hundred half and relay runners. I finished 9th overall, 3rd female out of 20, 1st age group with a time of 3:50 hrs, this was also my187th marathon. This race was very well organized, aid stations every 1.5 miles. Good party at the finish. I also got interviewed and mentioned at the local newspaper.

http://m.reporternews.com/news/2010/oct/30/marathon-goes-off-well-but-its-return-in-2011/

Grand Canyon Marathon - 11/06/2010

This was an amazing trip and race. We stayed 3 nights at the park enjoying the breath taking view. The day before race we took the 15 mile round trip hiking down to Colorado river and back which took us about 7 hours. This was probably not a good idea the day before race but I don't regret it. The morning of race was nice and cool low 30s and quickly it went up to 70s by noon. First 16 miles was mostly along the rim with incredible views, but we paid off soon by eating dust for the next 10 miles on dirt roads by ignorant drivers! One truck driver actually ran me off the road screaming profanity, I found out later the same person actually tried pulling a gun at Steve! There was only 94 marathon finishers and 200 or so half-rs. I finished 22nd overall, 8th female out of 36, 3rd age group with a time of 4:14 hrs, which is not bad considering the 6000 feet elevation, good size hills and the fact that there were no cups at aid stations and we had to carry a bottle and refill. I won a air ticket for Grand Canyon tour and got another one from some one that wasn't going to take the tour. The next day we took a small plain for 45 minutes for views from the air. The first 30 minutes I was fine but last 15 minutes the exhaust from fuel made me sick and I wished I hadn't taken the trip. This was also my 188 Marathon.

These were also the 6th and 7th of nine consecutive we have scheduled:

1- Clarence Demar Marathon, Keene, NH - 09/26/2010 - 3:50
2- West Texas Cross Roads Marathon Odessa, TX - 10/02/2010 - 4:00

3- Tyler Rose Marathon, Tyler TX - 10/10/2010 - 3:53

4- Cherokee Road Runners Louisville Marathon KY - 10/17/2010 - 3:52

5- Frankenthon Marathon, Cedar Park, TX - 10/23/2010 - 4:02

6- Marathoning for Miracles, Abilene, TX - 10/30/2010 - 3:50

7- National Geographic Visitor Center Grand Canyon Marathon - 11/06/2010 - 4:14

8- San Antonio, Marathon - 11/14/2010

9- Wildhare 50 Mile Trail, Warda TX - 11/20/2010

This weekend is San Antonio Marathon, which I look forward to running it with my brother.

The course was nice flat with a few hills! This was a mid size race, 245 marathoners, over 1000 half's and 5K runners. I finished 52nd overall, 7th female out of 103, 1st age group with a time of 3:53 hrs, this was also 185th marathon.

We drove up about 500 miles round trip to Tyler. The drive was nice and scenic. The race was organized, aid stations every 2-3 miles, traffic control was O.K. the course was rolling hills up to the last mile! Temperature was 60 to 80 degrees. Few extra aid stations would have been nice on last few miles. I mentioned it to the race director the day before, but he is set in his ways! He said he doesn't really care about having fast marathons!

This was also the 3rd of nine consecutive we have scheduled:

1- Clarence Demar Marathon, Keene, NH - 09/26/2010 - 3:50

2- West Texas Cross Roads Marathon Odessa, TX - 10/02/2010 4:00

3- Tyler Rose Marathon, Tyler TX - 10/10/2010 - 3:53

4- Cherokee Road Runners Louisville Marathon KY - 10/17/2010

5- Frankenthon Marathon, Cedar Park, TX - 10/23/2010

6- Marathoning for Miracles, Abilene, TX - 10/30/2010

7- National Geographic Visitor Center Grand Canyon Marathon - 11/06/2010

8- San Antonio, Marathon - 11/14/2010

9- Wildhare 50 Mile Trail, Warda TX - 11/20/2010

We are on our way to Louisville tomorrow.

There was stuff floating in water, very disgusting, I had to pass on a couple of them, rather not drink than get sick. First half was mostly down hill and scenic, second half was rolling hills and boring. There was minimum traffic control, some people had cars following them for the entire race to support them! Cars were passing runner on left and right some times speeding and blocking runners. I am surprised there were no accidents! There was no timing chip, and I am still trying to figure out how they were able to come up with exact times as they said, my time according to clock when I crossed finish was 3:49 and some how they recorded 3:50:03, when I asked for discrepancy the people handling the timing and the race weren't very friendly. I asked to speak to race director and they said there was no race director!

Happy to have added another state to our list of 50 states on 2nd round.

We ran our first 60K (37 miles) night trail race last weekend. Local race 30 minutes north of Austin by lake Travis. This was the most difficult night race we have done. Racing on trails is challenging since you have to keep your eyes on the trail at all times to keep you from falling. Well, running a long distance trail race at night is 10 times harder than running at day light. It was also hot, humid and hilly my 3 training friends. If you get tired and start dragging your feet you are in trouble, because it is going to catch on everything that is sticking out! I fell 3 times, once on my nose but didn't break it, squeezed it a little bet to straighten it in case it was broken! I got lost and found my way a few times, taking the wrong way could end up taking a 20 feet fall at places. There was a few hundred 60K, 30K and 10K participants about 60 finished 60K. We started at 7:00 pm and I finished at 3:30 am, placed 3rd overall woman,16th overall place with a 8:30 time. Steve finished about an hour after me but didn't fall at all.

Parvaneh
