Re: t-shirts for runners? Gift-like stuff

This is probably too late to be much help now. However, when I was visiting Scranton in October, I swung by "The Office" TV-show convention and picked up authentic race t-shirts from the Run for Rabies 5k episode that aired this season. They were a hit with both my kids. I also donated one to the gift exchange at my work Christmas party, and ended up winning the prize for the best gift. They still offer these shirts on-line at the NBC site for The Office, although they are a little pricey ($24.00).

P.S. I found it very complicated and frustrating logging in and trying to submit this post.

I at least was able to make it in less than 2 hours, and I don’t think I was ever in danger of having to quit. It just became drudgery as my clothing became utterly saturated. I saw 2 runners down and receiving medical attention within the last mile and a quarter. It will be interesting, I suppose, to see the results when they come out to see if I was disproportionately affected by the heat. I’m actually not sore at all, just tired.

Tomorrow is cross training – weights, and maybe an easy run on Tuesday, before I resume my marathon training on Wednesday.

[http://This message has been edited by RCL (edited Sep-10-2007).|http://This message has been edited by RCL (edited Sep-10-2007).]

Gun to Chip Time Differential

I’m trying to generate some new topics for this forum, so I figured I’d throw this out to the group for some thought.

On Sunday, I’ll be doing the Broad Street 10 miler. My wife and son plan to be there to root me on. Therefore, I took a course map, and wrote down estimated times of when I should be at a couple of the mile posts. I sort of have to give them reasonably reliable estimates since they will need to take a subway to then catch me at the finish. I took into account the 8:30 AM start time, and my expected average split per mile. Where I’m having trouble is estimating the amount of time it should take me to cross the start line after the gun goes off. They predict 15,000 runners on Sunday.

I originally estimated 5-7 minutes. However, I know someone who just ran the Country Music Half, and saw a 37 minute differential between his gun and chip times.

I checked the results from last year in the race I’m doing, and see differentials anywhere from 1 to 9 minutes among the runners finishing around where I expect to finish on Sunday. Does anyone have a more scientific method or reliable guess to predict my gun to chip time differential? Did they use staggered starts in Nashville that might account for what I consider a huge differential? Thanks.

[http://This message has been edited by RCL (edited May-02-2007).|http://This message has been edited by RCL (edited May-02-2007).]

[http://This message has been edited by RCL (edited May-02-2007).|http://This message has been edited by RCL (edited May-02-2007).]
