Yeah, having some expierence beforehand definatly helps. I grew up living on a sailboat, that expierence helped me on the little boats.

We use Solar, and wind. I have also heard about a thing that you tow behing the boat. It is like a wind generator, but it works in water. As to the solar panels breaking, If you put them in a place where you aren't going to walk on then they will be fine, also they make flexible panels that you can walk on.

Yeah, racing is great. I like all types of sailing, but you just can't get the rush that you feel when you are doing everything right and you start to pass other boats anywhere else.

I suggest a laser because they have fleets all over the world, and are relatively inexpensive. Also, Lasers race and sail at all levels, from your friday night beer can racing to the olympics. I think that the boat you are refering to when you mentioned a bathtub is the Optimast. That is the boat that I learned to race on.

The sails don't affect the direction of the boat at all. Anybody who sails at all knows that when you pull in the sail on a reach the boat heads up. And when you let it out when you are going to winward the boat tries to head down.

I live on a 48 foot sailboat, race J24s, and J105s in in San Francisco Bay. I have sailed Optis, FJs, and lasers. I just bought my own laser to race with.

Hi, I live in Vallejo California. I;m looking for someone who sails lasers. I need to practice with someone a couple times a month, more if they have time.
