Finished my last "easy" run yesterday and right at the end of the run I started feeling something on my shin right above my foot. I wouldn't call it pain, but it is definately whispering to me and I am suppose to run a 1/2 on Sunday. Have 2 days of rest. Taking Ibuprofin etc. and taking it ez. Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions? I haven't had problems with shins before, so don't know much about what to do/expect...eeek. . thanks and Happy 4th of July!

Warm Up for 1/2 marathon

Have seen mixed thoughts on warming up prior to a race. For my shorter races, I usually do an extensive stretch. Have never been one to do some jogging beforehand, as I'm always worried I'm using the fuel I'll need, but have stretched. Is stretching well still ok? This is my first half, and I want to finish, but most important don't want to get injured. Thanks.

Did quite a few 5ks last year for the first time and a recent 10k that I was pretty pleased with. I have been putting in about 16-20 miles per week and am sorry to say I'm a treadmill runner, train hard, and am fairly happy with the results thus far. Just started a 16 week 1/2 marathon training plan, but am considering doing one on April 1st. Too soon? Thoughts, ideas, or suggestions. Thanks.

Silly Pace Question

I see "warm up jog," "easy jog," "Recovery jog," "slow jog," and "cool down jog," or instead of jog, the word run is there. Wondering which is slow or fast compared to the others? Thanks.

Considering a 1/2 Marathon

I have been running (a treadmill runner mainly), but have recently done some 5Ks this year too, and am doing a 6K on T-Day. Thinking about later next year doing a 1/2 Marathon, but get confused about input on training. I probably do about (as of this week), close to 13 Miles per week total. My long run is a bit more than 7 Miles, and the others are work on speed and hills. How much more should I be doing to complete a 1/2 later next year? I see plans with running almost every day, but as of now I do about 3 days per week, 4 with a race. More? Not looking for 1st place, just a comfortable finish a 43 year old could be proud of. Thanks.

This year did my first 5k (about 4 of them-pretty addicting). So, I just signed up for my first Turkey Trot and am glad to see others proving I'm not completely insane for running a race T-Day morning! Actually, it's 4 miles, so hopefully it won't put me over the edge, as I can do the miles when training, but in a race, the pace is a bit faster and harder to regulate. Anyway, hopefully it will be fun, and am looking forward to making some calorie space for all that yummy food! Enjoy!
