NFL Players train for performance at the NFL Combine

I was invited to speak at the NFL Players Association on performance enhancement, and I was really impressed with how extremely dedicated the players I met were. Although I spoke with mostly veteran NFL players, I was also able to watch hopeful candidates show their skills to the coaches and prospective teams since this meeting was held as part of the NFL Combine. The focus and determination of the players was remarkable. At these peak levels of performance, every increase in speed, strength and ability is critical, and can even make or break a career. Here is a link to a blog entry I posted on my experience at the NFL Players Association Meeting/Combine: http://http://blog.astym.com/blog/astym-3/astym-and-the-nfl

Re: Plantar Fasciitis

Chronic plantar fasciitis can be difficult to recover from. Important things to address are correcting biomechanics, if necessary, through shoe inserts or other means, muscle balancing and strengthening, not only in the foot and calf, but all the way up through the hip, and increasing flexibility through proper stretching (again, just not in the foot, but in the calf - Achilles, gastroc, soleus and up into the hip). Usually physical therapy is helpful in assessing each persons strengths and weaknesses and providing specific guidance on excercise and stretches, but it sounds like physical therapy has not helped you.

An important thing to remember with chronic plantar fasciitis is that the cause is usually degeneration of the plantar fascia, and to fully recover you must reverse that degeneration and regenerate the plantar fascia. Otherwise, the condition will recur. Here is a website the provides a nice summary of the current medical evidence on plantar fasciits.
