Maybe do indoor/ outdoor track to keep you motivated. Try doing some longer runs with some speed/ track worouts mixed in. Days off are important too so as not to wear yourself out for the season. Good luck!

I ran xc this year and ran about a 21:20 5k. I also did outdoor track last year and had a 13.84second 100m -- a 30.6second 200m. I don't reallly know indoor track events so I have no idea what to try out for? any suggestions?? Also--- what shoes do you use for indoor? thanks!!

CMI today was awful I have never run on such a muddy course and the rain wouldn't stop. Nothing I own is dry and my shoes are so wet and muddy i wont be able to wear them for days. The race was fun except for the slipping and i ran ok even though i was hoping to do much better. Congratulations to anyone who runs meets in mud and rain that's WHAT XC IS ALL ABOUT!!!

Re: Legs feel weak during race

It is probably from the lactic acid as someone already said. If you are doing lots of miles before a race then that might cause more to build up. Make sure you do a good cool down after you run to help move some of it out of your muscles before it settles.

Another thing to try... after long mileage days or a couple of days before a meet our coach tells us to "hang our legs". basically, you lie on your back with your butt against a wall and your legs straight up the wall so you form close to a 90 degree angle. This will drain the lactic acid out of your legs and get it back into your bloodstream so it can be removed. Do this for anywhere from 5-30+ minutes. It will stretch your legs and your feet may go numb but it works. if you try it, grab something to read to make it go by faster. My legs always feel great afterwards!! good luck!!
