It doesn't matter what time I run....I just can't do it in humidity of 85% with temps 82+.....so...yes...I feel your pain and understand your frustration. My plan is to run my race per week the best I can......try and drop some of the bulk and remaining fat....crosstrain...use the treadmill for my long runs....and hold out for late Sept.

Crosstrain to get the weight off while limiting your miles of running.....you will be able add miles as the weight comes off and the wear and tear is lessened.

2. Go to a High end running store and have your gait and arches analyzed. They will be able to tell you if you are in the right kind of shoes or not......high end running shoes - correct high end running shoes are worth their weight in gold.....I can not emphasize the importance of good running shoes.....and no....just becasue you paid 85$ at Dicks or Academy Sprts does not make them good...I am living proof....I avoided a 55K surgery and 18 months recovery just by buying a pair of Neutral + cushioned New Balance 1064s and Gel Nimbus 12s.......the gait analysis will help to make sure that your running style is not assisting in creating shin pain....

3. Shin muscle strenghening.....google "shin exercises"....there are many sites that have exercises that help build that muscle up.....and prevent shin issues in the future.....

I am pretty sure that if you do all 3 of these.....you are going to be in the money! Good Luck

btw....my 5K last night.....i was sweating to death before the gun went off.....thats the moment you realize that even though you have lost a ton of weight...it still ain't enough dammit!

The one thing I can tell you is that the treadmill has far more give to it and swtiching to pavement can be a shock to your legs and they tire out quicker than they would on a treadmill. The other thing is that you went from a treadmill to cement/concrete.....cement is the worst material to run on due to it's unforgiving hardness....asphalt is far better than concrete. If you are going to train on a treadmill.....use the incline at .5% at all times and then fluctuate between .5% and 2.0% to build and maintain leg strength. One more thing.....I do not know what it is like in Vegas at night, but in Alabama....the humidity raises quite a bit even though the temp goes down.....high humidity & dew point kills larger people like myself.....it makes you feel drained and leg weary....combine all these factors and it adds up.
