The route was well chosen and for the longest time I saw very little vehicle traffic.

The scenery was beautiful and the ride staff was the bomb! Check-in was short and sweet and the pastries and juice were a great start.

I especially want to thank all the volunteers who put in a long day; for one who finishes the century late in the day it is nice to still see the last rest stop still open and with plenty of drink and the delicious homemade goodies.

I heard one volunteer state to a rider that the philosphy is the first and last rider deserve the same emenities.

I will definitely ride again next year.

Joyce I look forward to more of those delicious pumpkin cookies.

Cheers, Brian

This was a great ride to start the season off with. There were about 150 riders for this event. Check-in was a breeze; they even had juice and donuts for breakfast.

The ride was the best organnized I have been on so far.

A great big thank you to the volunteers from Moody Air Force Base; each SAG stop was themed and that made the rode even more enoyable. I met Mister Stinky (aka dude in a skunk costume) at the first rest stop the the 3 lovely ladies with halos and angle wings at the 3rd rest stop.

Every rest stop was well stocked with gatoraide, water and great snacks. I even had fruit smoothies and home made muffins at the 4th stop.

The 100 mole route was in North Florida and the roads were the best I have ridden with big wide shoulders and little traffic. The route was well marked; they even had yard signs at all turns; no way to miss a turn on this ride.

The post ride meal (sphegetti and fettucini, salad and bread sticks plus various sweets was excellent. Even though I was one of the last riders the meal was still hot and delicious.

If you want a god preseason warm-up this is the ride for you.

Thank you to all the great volunteers plus the staff for the Lowndes county recreation department.

Cudos and thank you for a great time.

Brian

Re: BBC 2010 Reviews

I have ridden the BBC 48 mile course a number of times with friends and enjoyed this area. This is the first year I have ridden the BBC 65 mile course and was well marked. I could not believe I did no encounter one dog along the way; that is amazing to me. The ride was well organized; parking was easy and all the volunteers were very pleasent and helpful.

There was on incident at the last SAG stop I was at. A biker went down and was being attended to; was revived and the volunteers had an ambulance on the way in no time.

Cudos to the volunteers working the last SAG stop. You guys are tops.

The post ride meal was great and thanks also to the Busch corp. for allowing us to use there facilities for this wonderful event. I plan on attending BBC 2011 and making the 100 miles next year.

Brian

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the great advice. I really think that Bob may have hit the nail on the head.

I had not ridden so many rolling hills in succession as I did the past August 1st.

I completed my first century back this past May; but this was a relatvely flat century in South Georgia.

Any hills I experienced were only a 4% or so grade and were longer.

I have started my hill training back on Tuesday nights riding a 5 mile loop 3 or four times; there are 5 climbs, 2 medium, 2 short and 1 long major climb.

But as far as the cramps it probably was a miriad of things, humidity, heat and under training on the hill. I know my gearing was also a factor; my lowest gear was 26 gear inches. I now have a low gear of 21 gear inches. I am having to compensate with my gearing until my fitness improves.

I am a big guy; even though I have lost 45 lbs I still weigh 235 lbs. I think as I shed more weight this will help immensely.

Thanks,

Brian

I recently road my second century this past Saturday and DNF because of cramps at about the 56 mile mark. At about 50 miles into the ride my thighs right above both knees started to cramp severely. I rode on and thought was going to get past this. At each rest stop I ate bananas for the potassium and I had been using GU energy gels every hour. I was drinking Cytomax, at least 1 bottle every hour.

I have never experienced ths before, I ran into 2 other guys that were having problems with cramps and were not able to finish.

Any suggestions on what the cause may have been?
