week 8 of C25K and falling apart! Help!

I did have the experience of having aches and pains increase as I progressed further into the program. In fact, when I finished, I took a week off from running entirely to give myself some rest. I'm in my mid40s, so my body needed some time to adjust to the activity!

I'm not sure I can help much to figure out the pain other than to say that if it's pain rather than discomfort, that may be a sign to take a break.

The side stitch may be caused by shallow breathing.

In terms of the muscle soreness/discomfort, try incorporating some yoga on off days and/or use a foam roller -- I find that the roller in particular really helps me with muscle soreness. I have one that is 3 feet long, 6 inches in diameter. I use it several times a week on quads, hamstrings, IT band, calves, etc. In particular, I found that I had some really deep muscle soreness in my calves that was causing some pain in my Achilles tendon/PF.

I hope this helps!

I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to do yet but I think I might take a break for a few days to let some soreness heal, then try settling into a routine before trying to increase any distance. Good luck to those of you still working your way through the program!

Then I need to figure out what to do...I think I will take a week off from running (read that suggestion in Runners World) and focus on some crosstraining, then do a few weeks of 3 days/30 minutes to settle in, then slowly add some time. I would like to add a 4th day of running.

I'm not sure about distance. I suspect I was slower so it was less than on the treadmill.

Tonight I finished W8D2. I did 2.72 miles in the 38 minutes so I'm off on time (obviously since I'm a penguin) but I did manage to run a smidgeon faster tonight. I felt very comfortable during the entire 28 minutes. It's starting to get really fun! I worry less about finishing and spend more time figuring out if I want to a do a faster interval, or slow down a bit, etc. The time goes fairly quickly. The weather should be a little more temperate this weekend (80s and less humid) so I think I'll run outside -- I can't wait!

Only 4 more runs to go and then I 'graduate' -- how amazing!

Happy running everyone!

I was never a runner when I was younger. I thought it was boring. How misguided I was! ;-)

A couple of years ago I was an avid walker but found that I just couldn't get my heart rate up high enough unless I really went nuts on the incline -- which can create some problems for the body. So I decided to try running. I got through the program and LOVED it because it gave me some time to be by myself, meditate, listen to music -- it was a great stress reliever -- but then got busy at work and stopped running. So now I'm back.

This time around, I definitely had to incorporate 2 days rest between runs in the earlier weeks, at a minimum between the 1st and 2nd run of the week. Sometimes between the 2nd and 3rd as well. But now I'm back to one day's rest.

The human body is an amazing thing. Eight weeks ago I could barely run for a minute -- now I can do 28 without a problem!

I may use an intermediate training schedule I found in Runner's World Complete Book of Women's Running. It seemed to be a little less aggressive than some of the other programs. I feel like I may need to settle into running 30 minutes routinely before getting too ambitious. And I may take a rest week off from running to help with healing, etc. as Barrios suggests.
