Re: Mud Chasers - Sparks, MD Reviews

Positives:

-Good obstacles; several climbing ropes/walls and 3 mud pits!

-Chip timing and wave starts

Negatives:

-Poor choice for course; boring open field with flags snaking back and forth to make the distance.

-No water/free food for runners? That's a pretty basic requirement for ANY race. Take care of your athletes!

-No place to wash off afterwards; not even a garden hose.

-No changing tents/rooms (unless they counted the hay-filled barn that was wide open to public view). Did they realize everyone would be covered in freezing mud?

-Unscrupulously charged extra $$ for things that are usually included in the price of registration: $10 for shuttle from parking lot, extra $$ for the only available food after the race etc.

The race itself was Ok, but the lack of planning and hospitality made this event unfriendly. I understand that this was to benefit a cause, but for $65 entry fee they skimped on a lot of the basics. Save your money for better organized mud runs.

Re: 4th Annual Fell's Point Figgy Pudding Race Reviews

This is my 3rd year running the Figgy 5k, and I won't be returning next year. It was very poorly organized. For $40, I can set up a few traffic cones of my own and still have plenty left over for beer. Where did the rest of the registration fee go?

-No starting line; just someone on a ladder that yelled go. I was at the front, 10ft away and could barely hear her. There were people behind me that didn't even know the race was starting.

-The course curved through patterson park, and I almost took a wrong turn several times because it was poorly marked. No distance markers either.

-No Timing! If there was a race official with a stopwatch somewhere, they did a good job of hiding. Didn't even see anyone at the finish line writing down times as I came through. There was no race clock like they've had in previous years; lucky I had my own watch.

-There was no water, no bananas or muffins. Nothing. All we got in the race packet was a shirt. The same shirt as last year, but in a long-sleeve version.

-Bib #'s didn't have any markings. Looked like they picked up a pack from walmart that morning (previous years had race bibs with "Figgy 5k" etc written on them).

-Prizes!? Ha! At the awards ceremony, the woman in charge just started handing out the prizes to random people who happened to be standing there. We didn't stand around in the cold for 30 mins for that.

The baltimore police did a good job of blocking off the streets along the course. As for everything else, I think someone woke up at 6am that morning and remembered they had to plan a 5k...
