Announcement for Podrunner Listeners

I rarely make any kind of announcement about Podrunner here because I'm sensitive about being regarded as spamming. But a LOT of people on this forum listen to Podrunner, so I thought it was worth an announcement.

After a year and a half of effort, Podrunner has (finally!) acquired sponsorship. This necessitated new music licensing, and that means that
as of November 1, ALL of the 86 mixes in Podrunner's archive will be unavailable.
So if there's any BPM range or mix you've been meaning to download, now's the time!

Everything else will operate the way it always has. Mixes that go online after Nov. 1 will stay online.

In addition, we'll be quickly rebuilding a foundation of mixes at the fundamental BPMs (the zeros and fives from 130-180 BPM) by beginning Podrunner Speedweeks on Nov. 1. This will be a new mix every other day for 14 days. Yowza.

I am going to post here and in Newbie Cafe, and I promise not to wallpaper the site with this. Thank you all so much for your downloads and support, and for helping to spread the word about Podrunner. It's no exaggeration to say that, without that, there's no way it would have become the most-downloaded workout music in the world. Eat yogurt and talk to Yogi Berra or Yogi Bear too, it's all good, but none of it will help your running which I believe was the original question.

[http://This message has been edited by DanMoriarity (edited Jun-24-2007).|http://This message has been edited by DanMoriarity (edited Jun-24-2007).]

Well, gosh, Dan, thanks for deciding who I am by the use of the word "yoga." That you read "help running" as "run faster" says more about you than it does about the question. Somehow I've misinterpreted this as a forum for runners -- which, silly broad-minded hemp-eating hippie that I clearly am, I've chosen to interprete as "people who run" and not "people monomaniacally devoted to winning at any cost to self or others."

----

DJ Steve Boyett
"Podrunner" -- FREE workout Music Mixes
Download from iTunes or directly from
www.djsteveboy.com/podrunner.html[/URL" target="_blank">

quote:

Originally posted by Iontach:

And then you end up paying *9.99 for the Couch-to-5k.

Robert Ullrey was a C-to-5ker himself a year or so ago, and put the podcasts together originally for himself. Very generously, he made them available to the world for nothing, and it costs him money to do it, because bandwidth isn't free.

Ullrey began the C25K podcast because Podrunner wasn't offering intervals; he told me so himself. Since February of 2006 Podrunner has been available for free and without any sponsorship. See my post above: you will not pay for Podrunner or any iteration of it. Podrunner is available free. It gets approx. 600,000 downloads a month, which translates into
36 terabytes of transfer
per month. Plus 50 tracks per month. Plus four non-income days per week auditioning, prepping, and mixing tracks, recording, updating website and blog, and answering listener emails. Right now I take donations to offset this. If literally one in 100 listeners donated, we wouldn't be seeking sponsorship so fervently. But the real ratio isn't even close to that. The whole reason for sponsorship is so that we can meet expenses and stop asking for listener donations, and so that listeners won't have to pay.

Podrunner's listener base isn't getting any smaller. It has maintained a steady 300% growth for over a year and a half. I do this because I love it, but if you think I'll be able to maintain this without a viable revenue stream, think again. If you want an idea what's involved in making these mixes every week, read the last entry in my Run Time newsletter here [/URL" target="_blank">

----

DJ Steve Boyett
"Podrunner" -- FREE workout Music Mixes
Download from iTunes or directly from my website[/URL" target="_blank">

[http://This message has been edited by djsteveboy (edited Aug-23-2007).|http://This message has been edited by djsteveboy (edited Aug-23-2007).]

I have a runner-oriented podcast. I do not promote the novels here, and wouldn't even if they were about runners. I do promote the podcast. What's the difference? The novels are for sale; the podcast is free. Your novel isn't a public service, it's available for a price and for your share of royalties. Add to that the grab bag of survey/bio/free-with-this-box handed with the initial announcement and it's off-putting.<br /><br />I did some serious reading and lurking here before I dared even announce my podcast, and I made sure everybody knew I wasn't selling something, and that I was interested in what they were doing enough that I had gone to great lengths to provide something for free that I hoped would help them. I have never blamed anyone who hasn't liked what I've offered. <br /><br />I have taken the approach that I am freely offering runners a resource in which I have no ego investment. I have not takent the approach that runners themselves are the resource as a source of revenue for my product, and I can't imagine chiding them for being critical of, or uninterested in, that approach. <br />Those are some key differences, I think, and you aren't unaware of them, as the first half of the first sentence in your first post clearly indicates.<br /><br /></del>--

dj steveboy
Current Podcasts:
"Podrunner"/"Groovelectric"
Download/subscribe free at www.djsteveboy.com/mixes.html[/URL" target="_blank">

[http://This message has been edited by djsteveboy (edited May-22-2006).|http://This message has been edited by djsteveboy (edited May-22-2006).]

I'm completely swayed. Not only am I a larcenous exploiter of my own work, but when I named a Podrunner mix "Cool Running," linked to coolrunning.com from my site and the podcast itself, and didn't post about it on this forum, it was all part of my insidious ploy to allay public suspicion and lure even more people into cognitively reprogramming themselves through my subliminal mind-control techniques. Yet my vast empire of propaganda has crumbled before the battering ram of your incisive wit by yielding to effectiveness of you having made fun of my name.

I now retire to my island fortress in abject humiliation and take up calligraphy.

----

DJ Steve Boyett
"Podrunner" -- FREE workout Music Mixes
Download from iTunes or directly from http://www.djsteveboy.com/podrunner.html[/URL" target="_blank">
