Re: I run cross country and LOVE it, but my mother hates everything about it.

(if my internet blocker has been fixed, maybe this will work...)

You could try doing it entirely on your own. If your mom only dislikes taking you around, then find your own rides, ride your bike if you're close, or maybe even the bus. My mom dislikes my wrestling, and hates it when I can't be at home to help (didn't mind at all my being gone for xc or swimming) she said. That's a different thing-I just started cleaning the kitchen and doing house laundry and other chores of hers, and she laid off. Confront her-but only once, and preferably with someone else you both trust to mediate, to decide on the problem. If she listens, says what she needs, and you can fix it, by getting rides or whatever you need to, great. If she doesn't, because for some reason she simply dislikes running (my mom hates "violence," even though wrestling has rules against brawling type moves) then you'll have to drop it, and do the best you can, I guess.

But try getting rides like neverenough said-I'm sure any upperclassman on the team would be more than happy to, or even the coach, especially if you're a state qualifier.

It stops them from getting in the "breathable" parts, and I can keep them off my socks. My shins are fine-and where I live pants aren't too uncomfortable in August-97 was a record the other day, so it's mostly cooler than that. Anyway, thanks, and sorry to waste a whole nother thread, but my computer is stupid now and shuts the entire net down when I try to reply. Stupid blocker. Like I said-thanks for the duct tape idea-my socks thank you as well.

Stickers!!!

I hate running on pavement, so I almost always (95% of the time) run on dirt. Most of the time, this results in stickers, and with these running shoes designed to breathe well, the stickers go right through. And they stick in my socks. The pointy grass seeds, and cocklburrs are the worst! Anyone else have this problem? any ideas? If nothing else, there is surely a less painful way to get the cockleburrs out than by funger-because then I ***** them too. It got so bad on my last run, my shins were even bleeding from stickerification. They don't come out in the wash, either. I'm considering running in army boots-marines do, why not me? (because i want to go faster...but I hate stickers. meh.)

The repetitive stress thing makes sense. As far as running experience, the most he ever did was about six miles on sundays to cut weight for wrestling (and it took forever, because he was tired and cutting) and so he usually hates to run. And he has running shoes, good ones I think, but forgets to wear them when he runs (which is typically 2-5 times a week, depending on the mood he's in). He does like to jog whenever he's in a foreign city, though, so see stuff. He doesn't stretch, that I know of, unless something hurts, like his back. He stretches that once or twice a day. He's not particularly serious, just likes being in decent shape.

He likes to run on asphalt because he goes a bit faster, and I like running in the ditch because it's softer and more challenging, depending on the grass height. It's pretty uneven, but would the cushioning offset that enough to make it worth his while to run in the ditch also?

But he did something the other day I couldn't figure out. He's a pilot, and for some reason or another was in a hurry, so he had to jump out of a (parked) airplane and run over to another one. The drop was 8 feet! He said it hurt a bit when he hit, but he was fine and kept running. How can he not run 3 miles without hurting, but goes bailing out of planes? I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else if like that.

Here's to old man strength, may I have it when I age.

PS: I'm 17 and MY feet and knees hurt when I fall from that high.

Hence the "inspired" part.

And I'd said earlier I wouldn't run because my knees hurt. Since my dad saw me sprinting all the way back to camp with a hawk following, (probably not as far as I imagined) he decided my knees didn't really hurt if i could run that fast.

Running Wet

So I had to run in it-and it was awesome. It was about 5 foot deep, and the thick grass rose high enough on either side I couldn't see out, and it wandered back and forth. Anyone else do that?

I also don't mind getting my shoes wet and heavy unless I'm really tired-that really bothers some of my buddies. It actually helped my 100 yard dash time once-because I had to fling my super heavy feet way out there, and it compensated for my once shorter steps.
