Despite it being 90 degress outside last night and feeling so tired that I wanted nothing more than to just crawl in bed at 8:00 pm and call it a night, I made it out for W3D1 and ran exactly as the plan called for. It wasn't pretty becasue my shins were acting up, as was my knee, but I managed to get through it at a little less than a 13 minute average pace, which I guess isn't too bad considering I had to slow drastically a couple times for oncoming traffic.

For what's worth, my diet has gotten somewhat sloppy over the last few days (put down nearly a case of PBR over the holiday weekend) and I think that's what's making me so lethargic, but that changes TODAY. I made a commitment to finish this program and that's exactly what I'm going to do, come hell or high water.

As per usual, I blogged about it at www.runjimmyrun.com.

I initially had some minor joint pain in one of my toes, but as I got further into the run, I realized that I actually had some built-up energy (for once!) and decided to test out my speed...or what little I have left. To my surprise, I was able to clock a 7:15 average pace for one of my run segments! Granted, it was less than a quarter mile, but as we all know so well, you have to start somewhere!

Anyhow, I blogegd about it if you'd like to read more:

http://www.runjimmyrun.com/2010/09/03/turnin-up-the-juice-couch-to-5k-w2d2/

Keep up the great work everyone!

Granted, I saw a very attractive woman sitting on her front porch toward the end of the run which involuntarily caused me to pick up my pace (some kind of built-in "guy thing" I suppose), but I was surprised at how tender my legs felt after the run.

Still looking forward to tomorrow's run however and this time around, maybe I'll run with blinders on.

About a mile and half into it, the sound faded to the point that I could barely hear it and for the rest of the run, it kind of just came and went.

When I got home, I realized that the back of the unit (near the speaker) was completely drenched with sweat, so like you said, I assume that has something to do with it.

I wiped it off as best I could and today it sounds fine, but I hope to god this doesn't become a bigger issue - My Garmin is my lifeblood!

Anybody else have similar experiecines or additional insight?

While the upfront cost may turn some off (about $125 for an entry-level model), the convenience and amount of statistical data you gain from it are mindblowing (pace, distance, heart rate, gps, elevation, alerts, virtual partner, much more) - all of which are plotted and charted via Garmin's excellent website. Now that I've run a few times with it, I could never imagine running without it. To me, it really makes running fun again.

Best of luck to all!

I'm still a bit sore and tender in my left foot that I guess is still partially recovering from my fourth toe breaking in May, buut other than that, everything went really well. Okay, not counting the fact that I ddin't program the run correctly in my Garmin ...

Anyhow, I worked up a nice little sweat and am looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow night for W1D2.

For those who are interested, I blogged about the run at: http://www.runjimmyrun.com/2010/08/25/run-report-couch-to-5k-w1d1/

Keep up the great work guys!

The Forerunner 305 works FLAWLESSLY and it hasn't given me the slightest bit of trouble yet. Granted, I haven't had to contact Garmin tech support yet, but as long as it keeps doing what it's doing, I shouldn't ever have to.
