Cal A’s 18U Looking for Players for the Summer Season.

The new Cal A’s 18U team is looking for both college committed and non-college committed players for their new 18U team. The team will be coached by current Fullerton College Head Coach Marian “ Speedy” Mendoza. Her coaching staff will consist of current and former college coaches.

Coach Speedy has had over 20+ years of coaching at the collegiate level. She has also coached at the highest levels of international softball and in 2012 guided her Cal A’s team to win the Canada Cup in Women’s Elite Division. Some of the players she has coached were Keilani Ricketts (Oklahoma), Blair Luna (Texas), Erin Wesley (Long Beach State), Courtney Gano (Washington), Melissa Davin (Tennessee), Jordan Taylor (Michigan), Brianna Turang ( Oklahoma), and Ashley Carter (Cal State Fullerton) just to name a few.
She was also a stand out player for Long Beach State and also played Professionally for the Tampa Bay Firestix.

Her goal is to help serious student athletes to attain their dreams in getting a college scholarship to the school that is best for the player. She also wants to work with committed players to make sure that they are ready to play at the collegiate level, and also teach them what will be expected of them when they get there.
We will be playing in Surf City, TCS and other major collegiate exposures. Players will also have the experience of playing against International teams.

The Cal A’s organization is the travel ball expansion of Kathy Millers Cal A’s teams. Cal A’s has been established since 1993 and has been a steady force in the College and International level of Softball. Many past and current Olympians, College Coaches and collegiate players have played in the Cal A’s program.

The expansion of the Cal A’s travel ball organization is under the direction of Coach Marian “ Speedy” Mendoza. Her vision is to work and empower future student athletes to reach their fullest potential. Her dream is to build a program where the player best interest is the number one goal. Her hopes are to provide guidance and knowledge to both athlete and their families to make the right choices for their future college careers.

Artesia Punishers 99 – Open Tryouts Aug 28 & Sep 1

The Artesia Punishers 99 will be having their 14U open tryouts.

When: Tuesday, August 28, 2012 Time: 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm: Registration 4:30 pm

When: Saturday, September 1, 2012 Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm: Registration 8:30 am

Note: All players should bring their own equipment and something to drink.

Note: All returning players must try out. Please no Punisher shirts or uniforms at tryouts.

Where: Cerritos High School Softball Field

This team will be coached with a very experienced coaching staff. Head coach will be Crystal Aguirre. She will be assisted by Coach Marian” Speedy” Mendoza. Assistant Coaches will be Dayna Feenstra, and Thomas Parten. Team coordinator will be Brian Iseri.

Crystal Aguirre: Coach Crystal is in her third year as an Assistant Coach at Fullerton College. A four-year varsity player at California High School, Crystal was voted All League every year she played and was also a two-year All Area selection. A skilled hitter, Crystal batted .469 as a junior and over .500 her senior season. In 1998, Fullerton College was Crystal’s next destination where as a true freshman she made a name for herself making 2^nd team All Orange Empire Conference and taking All Tournament honors at the State Finals. The next season that Crystal played for the Hornets she was 1^st team All Conference and All Southern California. She batted .408 with 19 RBIs in conference lay and finished overall with a .366 batting average with 29 RBIs. Crystal also has coached travel ball teams in both the 12U & 14U levels taking them to Nationals. Crystal just recently was a coach on the California A’s National team that won the 2012 Canada Cup. Crystal is one of the lead instructors for the Academy and has trained numerous young softball players.

Marian “Speedy” Mendoza: Coach Speedy is currently the Head Coach and is entering her 14^th season overall for the Fullerton College Softball program. For the last three years, Coach Speedy has also been the Head Coach for the Women’s Open National Team California A’s that has competed well at the Canada Cup against the Canada, Australia, and USA National Teams. This past year her team captured the Championship in the Women’s Elite Division. On her team she coached college stand outs such as - Blaire Luna (Texas), Erin Wesley (Long Beach), Kylee Lahners (Washington), Mattie Fowler (Nebraska) to name a few. Speedy played her college career at Long Beach State where she helped the 49ers to fourth place finish at the 1988 Women’s College World Series. Coach Speedy also played professional softball for the Tampa Bay Firestix. Coach Speedy also operates a program called “Academy” which was set up to train young softball players. Academy has hosted numerous softball camps both in the USA and internationally. Coach Speedy is also involved with the Christian Athletes Association.

Brian Iseri: Coach Brian has 10+ years of coaching experience. For the last four years, he has been coaching in the Artesia Punishers organization coaching 12U, 14U and 18U teams. He also worked as the recruiting coordinator for the Punishers 97 team. He adds numerous years of coaching, managing, and mentoring at the travel ball level. He is currently an assistant coach for Fullerton College.

Dayna Feenstra: Coach Dayna played her college softball career at Michigan State where she was a starter all four years. During her four years she was able to post numerous batting statistics and was a stand out player for the Spartans. Currently Dayna works a teacher and also is an instructor at VIP Batting training young softball players.

Thomas Parten: Coach Tommy has over 10+ years of coaching experience. For the last four years, he has been coaching in the Artesia Punishers organization. During this past year he has been the manager of the Artesia Punishers 97 team and will be the up coming manager for the Punishers 16U team. Coach Tommy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him.

Punishers 99 is looking for dedicated players and parents who understand what travel ball is all about. We are looking for players whose goal is to work hard in both the classroom and on the field. Our goal is to develop each player to get them to the next level. All positions are open and will be earned. We will be practicing on a regular basis with our 16U and 18U teams. Throughout the year we will have several of our players playing in Exposures with our 16U team. Our coaches also believe in mentoring each player and providing them with the right tools to help them obtain their goals both on and off the field.

Our team puts a very high infancies on academics. The team will have mandatory grade checks each quarter. Players who obtain a 3.5 GPA and or 4.0 GPA will receive a special practice shirt that marks them as part of the 3.5 Club or 4.0 Club. Players who do not keep up with the mandatory team GPA will be put on team probation. If improvements are not made, players will be removed from team.

Our goals for the team this year is to introduce our players on how to get started on their college recruiting. We will provide instruction to players and parents on how to create player profiles, create player videos, and start communications with colleges that they are interested in attending. We also plan to have our players meet with college coaches and also plan to have college campus visits.

We also plan to have our team participate in a couple college exposure tournaments including the Kaikamahine Summer Invitational in Hawaii.

10U Hawaii team looking for friendlies in Las Vegas in October 2012

10U Kaikamahine Team is looking for 10U teams who would like to play friendlies. We are planning on being in the Las Vegas area on October 5-7 2012. We were planning on playing in the LV Tournament, but found out that it will be cancelled. Our team already purchased their airline tickets.
