TENNESSEE Eagles 18U Tryouts

DATE: 8/14/2010

LOCATION: MOUNT JULIET CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

TIME:11:00 A.M - 3:00 P.M

We are the TN Eagles seeking highly focused and hard working softball players pursuing a college softball scholarship. We are a second year team this year having played 16U ASA Class A this past summer. After a summer of building we are now moving up to 18U ASA GOLD Our team is staffed with former SEC and Sunbelt coaches, Cortney Mitchell and Valanna Lyons. We have attached some background information on them so you can learn a little more about their education, experience, and success. Any player looking to tryout needs to be in pursuit of a higher level of play and education, capable of playing and training throughout the fall and winter, and prepared to travel outside of the southeast area. We will play fall ball, qualifiers, and showcases throughout fall and summer. It is our goal to not only pursue and succeed at obtaining college scholarships for all our players, but also to educate, teach, and ultimately raise the standard of play in the state of Tennessee. In order to do so fall and winter practices are required. For questions or information please contact Cortney or Valanna as soon as possible.

Head Coach: Cortney Mitchell: Mitch4884@aol.com 615-478-9988

Born and raised in Mt Juliet Tennessee Cortney cultivated her passion for softball. Her parents Connie and David Mitchell began her in local little leagues and later enrolled her at Ezell Harding Christian School. This decision led to four TSSAA Championships and began her reputation as an accomplished hitter. Coming off her last season of women's open softball Cortney Mitchell's final game was against the 2008 USA Olympic Team. Having lived and played on Storm USA in California for the last two years she gained not only elite experience, but also a national championship. Graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health, Cortney began coaching and teaching softball. While competing in college her junior and senior year at MTSU she was named Sunbelt newcomer of the year and Sunbelt player of the year. Holding multiple offensive records still at MTSU Cortney also went on to break the national doubles record two years in a row. Prior to MTSU Cortney attended the University of Arkansas where she was named SEC hitter and player of the week. Now a certified coach and personal trainer Cortney shares her experience, passion, and techniques with young female athletes.

Assistant/Pitching Coach: Valanna Lyons lannal14@yahoo.com 615-300-6354

Born and raised in Murfreesboro Valanna graduated with many softball accolades for Oakland H.S leading her to a scholarship with the University of Arkansas. In four seasons with the Arkansas softball team, Valanna Lyons created an impressive resume still evident throughout the Razorback pitching record book. Lyons was a key member of the 2002 team that was 39-28-1 and earned an invitation to the NCAA Tournament. During her Razorback career, Lyons struck out 272 batters and averaged 5.08 strikeouts per seven innings. Both figures are fifth all-time on the respective school lists. Her longest outings came in 2002 and 2003, a pair of eight-inning efforts. In those 16 combined innings, Lyons allowed just one earned run and totaled eight strikeouts. In addition to her ability to start, Lyons proved her worth at the back end of games, too. She earned four saves in relief appearances during her time in Fayetteville. Those four saves represent the sixth-most by an Arkansas pitcher. She also finished her Razorback career with 22 victories and a 3.04 ERA. All totaled, Lyons? name still appears on 15 single-season and career lists for Arkansas.

Cortney Mitchell
mitch4884@aol.com
615 478 9988
mount juliet, Tennessee 37122
