One was chilly so I wore a cycling jersey. I did get a tri shirt with handy pockets for Gu's. They are far from essential, but you look more serious.

You won't believe the difference it makes to get decent equipment. Its no substitute for training, but there is a very big difference between a mountain bike and a decent quality $1200 + road bike. You will want ot ride a lot more.

You can train in tougher gears at lower cadences but you should be racing at 90 or so. I have often found myself spinning by someone in a race who is trying so hard to push a hard gear.

I wouldn't spend the money until you're sure that you are going to stick with the sport. I know that it would help, but they aren't cheap. Twice a week for each part is plenty. I am basically a runner, and the swim is underweighted in the overall picture, os I tend to work much harder on the bike. Good luck, have fun

Its tiptoes only when I'm on the seat. I would go back to the shop where you got the bike and tell them to guide you in adjusting the seat height. And hey, your back may still hurt some. As far as the bike to run transition, I've done a dozen tri's and the same thing always happens. As someone else said, you just start with small steps. Do the brick workouts; they really help you get used to working out the tightness.

Work backward form race day. I guess that you have about eight weeks to train. You are just about there on the run distance. You could probably go out this weekend and do 40 miles on the bike. I wouldn't think much about high intensity workouts, just building the base endurance that will enable you to finish, since just being able to do it is your goal. Going to speed work to soon will just increase your chance of getting hurt and ending everything. Go to the pool tomorrow and get started on that. Good luck.

I don't know about your price range, but for a person your size, It might be around $3,500 (?). The best part of it would be that it would be custom built to take into consideration each unique body dimension and you would probably enjoy riding much more and go a lot faster. I have seen them at Cyclesport in Park Ridge New Jersey.
