Re: How fast do your shoes wear out?

Thanks for all your reply's... though some of theses aches were from hard training (had time off due to injury so I had to push my miles the last 2 months), some were also because I am wearing out the cushon in my shoes... I put some heel inserts(for more cushoning in the heel and a little better arch support) in them for my LSD today, and wore a thicker pair of socks, this seemed to help a lot... though I know I NEED TO get some new shoes.. soon, but right now finances just wont allow, but at least I think with the inserts i can get some more miles out of them (at least a few)... and they should get me through my HM next sunday. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|border=0!

Edited because my hands get a little shakey after LSD, and they slip to the wrong keys !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|border=0!
----

myspace[/URL" target="_blank">

Work it harder, Make it better, Do it faster, Makes us stronger, Our work is never over...

[http://This message has been edited by runningforfreedom (edited Feb-25-2007).|http://This message has been edited by runningforfreedom (edited Feb-25-2007).]

Re: Posterior shin splints?

I have had problems with the same thing... what I found was that one, I WAS running too fast, depite still being slow, and second that the area was VERY tight. I have been stretching that area, by sitting on my heels, on a mat... it stretches the fronts of your lower legs. I also was guilty of upping milage too fast (more than 10%/week)... so I think a combo of all those things has triggered it. I'd say try running slower, strething the area, icing, and massage all help. Sometimes I think it's back, but it's the muscle getting knotted again... I also have added a bit of strentgh training for my lower legs... and make sure to hit that area... like if you'r sitting at your desk, try pulling your toes up twards your shin... that will flex the front of the shin... do reps of that, it helps to strengthen the area. I also when I am doing leg presses, do some reps (like 20 or so) of calf raises with my feet off the bottom of the sled, so I can get a full range of motion, from as far as I can stretch to as far as I can flex my foot down... hope this is clear, it's hard to explain.

Good luck, these can be healed, but it takes patience... I've been fighting them since about feb this year. But I am getting them under control after some experimentation... now they only flare up when I don't stretch regularly, or if I run too fast too much.

----

myspace[/URL" target="_blank">
Higher Chakra Jewlery[/URL" target="_blank">

I run trails in skirts!!!!!

[http://This message has been edited by runningforfreedom (edited Aug-24-2007).|http://This message has been edited by runningforfreedom (edited Aug-24-2007).]

Hydration and electrolight replacement in the Heat

Okay I have been having issues lately with leg cramps, and I'm fairly sure it's a hydration issue... here's the thing... I am a heavy sweater, and I live in a tropical climate, our winters are around 60 degrees most days... to us that IS cold... I started running regularly again last September, and though I was running outside I was not doing much in the way of distance till the temp started cooling off... now as most days are in the 80's to 90's I have started getting cramps on some of my runs... I am only drinking water while running, tried gatoraide during winter on a long run and it came back up, not fun, but I finished anyway. I am upping my milage again slower this time, and I take my time(meaning running slower) when the temps are high, but it seems that I am just not getting the right hydration or electrolights... I can't stand the TM, I'll take the heat over the bordom at this point in the game anyway... what I'm wondering is how do you stay hydrated while still runnning a decent distance in this heat? 3-4 miles runs seem okay, unless it's mid-day, but anything longer and I start cramping up. It's getting frustrating because I drink a lot of water, and always take water with me on ALL my runs now that it's hotter... maybe I need more salt and/or potassium?

----

myspace[/URL" target="_blank">
Higher Chakra Jewlery[/URL" target="_blank">

I put up with running in a humid oven, so I can dance on the beach!

[http://This message has been edited by runningforfreedom (edited May-29-2007).|http://This message has been edited by runningforfreedom (edited May-29-2007).]

Re: Craving for lemons

quote:

Originally posted by lissasays:

Hi everyone<del>just wanted to borrow upon all of your great expertise here with a question. After my runs I always crave lemons. It doesn't matter how long or how hard I run, I just have to eat lemons immediately when I'm finished. I usually take two fresh lemons and blend them with ice and stevia. I also crave ice all of the time. <br /><br />Just wondering if anyone else has this strange craving and what it could possibly mean. I never crave other citrus, just lemons for the sourness. <br /><br />A bit of background on me: I run about 35 miles per week, eat a fairly balanced diet consisting of 1500 calories per day maximum, though generally less. I also have low blood pressure, it's usually 87/55 and my resting pulse is 50. Not sure if these factors make a difference or not though. <br /><br />[http://This message has been edited by lissasays (edited Nov-01-2006).|http://This message has been edited by lissasays (edited Nov-01-2006).]</b><HR></BLOCKQUOTE><br /><br />1500 calories a day? And you're running 35 miles a week... that alone burns at least 3500 calories. Are you trying to lose weight? Seems to me that maybe you're not eating enough. As far as the lemon cravings... I don't know, but I do know they help to rid your body of toxins.. so it's better than craving chocolate! <br /> All I want after a run is WATER! But maybe I should add some lemon !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!<br /><br /></del>--

Don't ever let someone tell you "you can't", if you believe them, you may never know what you CAN do!

So I am seeing a bit of improvement. I WILL NOT GIVE UP! Oh and this was in 89% humidity and 79 degrees... I'm thinking that once the weather starts to break, it'll be a lot better improvement. I ran in the am, rather than at night, I think that might have helped, somehow, who knows. I was wearing new shoes also, I'm getting away from stability shoes, and these seemed to be good. I noticed something else today, once the sweat really starts to pour, my HR gets a little easier to manage in the same weather... maybe cause I'm fully warmed up? Not sure, but I'll take it. I need to go inside for a couple runs this week, and see what running out of the weather and sun does for my pace.

----

myspace[/URL" target="_blank">
Higher Chakra Jewlery[/URL" target="_blank">

MAF I will not give up!

[http://This message has been edited by runningforfreedom (edited Jul-08-2007).|http://This message has been edited by runningforfreedom (edited Jul-08-2007).]

I am so ready for cooler weather.

I'm going to try and post a pic... lets see if this works?

[http://This message has been edited by runningforfreedom (edited Sep-10-2007).|http://This message has been edited by runningforfreedom (edited Sep-10-2007).]

Okay that worked the second time... this is my first piece to come out of my new studio... the image is bigger than in real life, but that's cool. I'm rather excited, because it's my first time trying to weave wire at all, I susually use other ways of setting stones, so yay!

Oh and I had a dream last night, jeans was in it, but that's all I remember was that we were talking running. I am waitting for a break in the wather to start adding miles again, right now can't control my HR unless I run all 15+mm and even that is questionable, so I'm keeping my runs shorter, like under an hour.

going back to read the thread and drink my smoothie now Yummy!

----

myspace[/URL" target="_blank">
Higher Chakra Jewlery[/URL" target="_blank">

I run trails in skirts!!!!!

When I was training for my frist race (A HM) I told a girl I had worked with before, who i knew was a runner, so I thought she would be cool to me about it, but she just kind of looked at me and chuckled, "you're running anf half marathon? Mhm." I knew she thought because I wasn't skinny that there was no way I could do it... even on race day I didn't really feel like I looked like runner, but I did the race, and finished, which was my only goal.
