We got last minute rooms in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake. It was somewhat of a drive to the amphitheatre race morning and if you go that route, I recommend leaving plenty of time. Shamrock will be a great celebration. I wish I knew more about parking. There are public lots near the oceanfront and the streets have some parking. I stayed in a hotel last year so it wasn't an issue. Looks like you'll be leaving early to come in, right? You are farther out than I am. (Elizabeth City)

Diva, you crazy treadmill woman. I think I've trudged through 18 on one of those. I should take my own advice on this, but I think the more you go into the race worried about the outcome, the more mental anguish you create for yourself which isn't helpful. We can remind each other to RELAX.

I don't know about meeting up. When would be good? Saturday morning I'm spectating the 8K which my boyfriend is running. I have a running club dinner on Saturday night. I will probably hit the Expo Friday late afternoon, but maybe go back Saturday, too. Sunday assuming we survive !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0! post-race is open, as well.

dorf -- lucky for you you've got youth on your side. Be prepared for the going to get tough at some point on the course. Start as slowly as is humanly comfortable for you and just take it really, really nice and easy. Feel like you're out for a very easy jog. Slower than 8:30 even maybe? (That's just my opinion and feel free to ignore it.) But remember you have lots of beer to legally drink at the end; the easier you take it, the more up for celebrating you'll be.

[http://This message has been edited by sistergoldenhair (edited Feb-28-2007).|http://This message has been edited by sistergoldenhair (edited Feb-28-2007).]

My legs, not yet recovered from racing a Half two days before, were having none of that and I switched to the elliptical after 1.5 miles.

Tuesday: 7 on the roads. Much better.

Wednesday: made up the 4.5 from Monday. Felt good.

Thursday: 20 -- I was pretty slow the last 5. Legs still tired.

Friday: Workshop in Raleigh NC (travel). Rest day.

Saturday: 8 on fairly hilly trails in Raleigh's lovely Umstead Park. It was fun to be on trails again!

Sunday: 9 pretty dreadful treadmiles.

I logged my first ever 50-mile week this week, with some challenges along the way. Mostly, my legs were generally dead. I traveled, which was great for change of scenery, but also adds a lot of logistical stress. Also, my usually cranky hamstring/glute has been more sore than usual, mainly when I sit or stretch. None of my usual tricks are seeming to calm it down, and I'm getting nervous that it's going to become an official injury.

The next two weeks will be peak training and then tapering begins. I can't believe how fast it's all going!

Enjoy and feel good this week, everyone.

[http://This message has been edited by sistergoldenhair (edited Feb-11-2007).|http://This message has been edited by sistergoldenhair (edited Feb-11-2007).]

The course went south about 6 miles, north to about the 20-mile mark, then south again. With a 15-20mph north wind, you can imagine what those middle 14 felt like. Although in a beach town wind is always a factor, maybe the marathon gods will smile on Shamrock this year.

[/B]

Currently we're in a weather pattern of unseasonably warm weekends so hopefully that will change. It intermittently feels tight/achy and sometimes I feel a rubbing or floppy sensation beneath or lateral to the kneecap. I'm suspecting the usual culprit of ITBS. Ramped up my foam rolling and stretching.

No 3:45 pace group at my goal race! I am trying not to let this be discouraging. I had been somewhat counting on the motivation a group provides and not having to expend energy "worrying" over pace, especially in the last 10K. There is, however, a marathon 6 weeks after Shamrock with a 3:45 group (Frederick MD Marathon) -- I don't know about switching completely but guess I could make it a backup plan.

[http://This message has been edited by sistergoldenhair (edited Jan-15-2007).|http://This message has been edited by sistergoldenhair (edited Jan-15-2007).]

The marathon course has some trails which make it not quite as fast. It's completely flat except for the bridge. I haven't done it, but people I know who have say the course is great.

Just a little over two weeks to go!
