I have my theory on why, but I am sure no one wants to hear it. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|border=0!

The track was locked last night due to Easter break, so I wimped out and did core work instead, and boy did it make my run tonight feel great! 5 miles into the wind, but I was flying. I think I found the mobobo zone.

The first time I went to the high school track and it was locked, I was discouraged. Then I realized that I could sneak in through the seating area. Good runs, Ilene and everyone.

I had a perfect run last night under a beautiful starry sky by the time I was done. Was out there for an hour and a half, slow steady pace, plugged in for the first time since the marathon, with a stupid grin plastered on my face while the music brought back memories from the race. My feet were a little shocked but happy that the Easter bunny brought me new GT-2080's.

----

My Profile[/URL" target="_blank">

[http://This message has been edited by Karl Rysted (edited Apr-13-2007).|http://This message has been edited by Karl Rysted (edited Apr-13-2007).]

Carbs are easily converted into the necessary energy; therefore, the body will cheat to use the quick fuel. By running without added carbs, you are stressing the cells to become more efficient at burning fat, which you have plenty of, and therefore on race day, you have enough carbs (glycogen) to last about 2hrs, so don't even think about sucking down a Gu until after the half. Now add the fact that the body can only absorb about 7oz of water every 15 minutes and can only handle about 200-300 calories/hr anything more adds to stomach distress as the stuff just sits in the gut and sloshes. So by the end of the race you don't want to have taken more than 3 or 4 gels.

with thanks to my buddy Nighthawk42

[http://This message has been edited by Ileneforward (edited Apr-12-2007).|http://This message has been edited by Ileneforward (edited Apr-12-2007).]

I also try and get by with as few Gu's as possible. However, my approach is not scientifically based. I don't know the exact needs of my body during a LR (never been tested). I sort of go by trial and error and what the experts say is "best practice". I do know I'm a 'sweater' (not the clothing type) ...get that from my mom's side ...so I'm very conscious of trying to take in plenty of liquids.

The interesting thing was that one of our local running 'gurus' (owns a store; lots of experience; coaches runners) told me he took 6 GU's during his recent BQ marathon. I was really surprised he took so many. Same with Lance. That's why I'm questioning my own use of GU's.

I'm going to try Gu with water over the next two weeks and see how it goes. Will let you know.
PJ

Way to go Henry), SansSouci, Flying, pt (a couple), smpankowski (a couple including "Kong Zilla Hill"), runwun (a couple), PBJ, mrbill, PDR, robp, Dale (nice post injury run), and thunderbolter (longest lope of 07). Good job on the speedwork for GrayDave, bty, MarkGuy, Tall, Lab, Karl, WRFB, breger, jtv, and SansSouci.

This morning, it was in the low 30s with some wind. As I stepped out the door, the birds were singing. Walking to the neighbor's driveway while acquiring a GPS signal, I heard a wild turkey. The neighbor's yard had a couple of deer in it. As I started running and rounded the corner to head east, I had a pretty pink sky in front of me from the ready to rise sun. I plodded through 8 miles in about 1:17:30 for a 9:42 pace.

The snow that Sue mentioned is headed our way. About an hour ago, we talked to our son, halfway between us and Sue and it was snowing hard there.
