I did that about a year ago and found it very helpful. The key when you up your distance is to do it slowly. build no more than 10% a week on your distance. Make sure you do plenty of stretching particularly AFTER you run. For core work I just do various situps and pushups. At 42 your not that old to start.       <description>&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyStart:53279dbc-3e89-455b-87ed-decabaefb0c8] --&gt;&lt;div class="jive-rendered-content"&gt;&lt;p&gt;I'm 42, so I am getting a late start!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I'm New to running, &amp;amp;amp; I can't stop.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;10 weeks ago, I started the c25k, and now&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; I've completed 3 races, I had my PR in&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The last race!&amp;#160; I started the 10k training this week!&amp;#160; I am so happy&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;With the progress!&amp;#160; I'm doing core exercises in addition to my running!&amp;#160; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I can run for 40 minutes solid now, something I never thought possible!&amp;#160; I have signed&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Up for a race every month!&amp;#160; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Any ideals on strength and/or core training?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyEnd:53279dbc-3e89-455b-87ed-decabaefb0c8] --&gt;</description>
