For your budget you aren't going to get a new carbon wheelset. You may find some used for that amount. Depending on how many races you are planning on doing, renting can be a good option, especially to try some out. Your bike, Felt z85, is a road bike. If you are just doing triathlons, you may to spend money getting a triathlon fit which will include bars/extensions, as well as an aero helmet if you don't have one already. Those are the two biggest time savers in triathlon bike legs. Third is a set of aero wheels. You can certainly get lighter wheels depending on your size. I've had good experience with Mavics too, I've used both Aksiums and Kysyriums as an everyday-type-of-wheel and they're solid. I did two Ironmans on Aksiums and they worked great. In general, opt for the sealed cartridge bearings and bladed spokes.

Renting them is great too. Whether you're renting for a race or a weekend ride, it'll give you a chance to check out some different brands and features.

You might also want to try renting before buying if your not exactly sure what you want. My local shop rents them pretty cheap so I rented for a few races before deciding what to buy.

I think your best bet is to pick up some used deep dish wheels from e-bay or some local tri/bike racing listserve. For about 800 bucks, there are wheels like the Rolf Prima and the Mavic Ksyriums - not carbon fiber but lovely wheels.

Hello-

I'm looking to upgrade the wheels on my 2012 Felt Z85. Currently I have just the stock wheels. I primarily do triathlons and I'm doing a full Ironman at the end of the year. I'm looking to spend $600-$800, any suggestions?
