This year I am helping plan a 5K race to fundraise money to help fight cancer. At this moment we are near the beginning of the planning, we have permission to put on the event and are now just trying to figuring out how to do it. The race will take place on a 400m track with about 4-5 lanes for runners and we are trying to figure out how to keep track of how many laps people have done. A couple of ideas that I have heard are marking people, giving them rubberbands every laps or sticks. If we have to we would probably be marking people but this system doesn't seem the best because for the first few laps the people running will have to slow down to get the mark on their hands which won't let them get the best time. Is there a better way that anyone knows about to track these people? Thanks for any help or any input that you have.
