Vaseline is the best. It cheap and one application at the begaining of the race has lasted me through Ultras in the hotest and most humid of weather. It also works great in other friction areas.

If you get some athletic tape or waterproof medical tape, you can tear off a tiny little 1 cm x 1 cm piece that only covers the tip of the nipple and only sticks to the non-hairy areola. Simple, cheap as dirt, and works extremely well in my experience.

With all this advice if I meet any of you at the VT50 your shirts should be almost the same color as when you started (the dark ones may be a little white with salt). Any advice for keeping the HR monitor chest strap from chafing?

Well, this weekend I took a waterproof bandaid, cut the bandage part out, and put one end each of the band aid on my nipples horizontally. I also pulled the hair back from my nip and made sure to put that sucker on the skin. I ran 26 miles Saturday. I think that sucker almost pulled my nip off when I went to take it off. It would NEVER have come off. This is simple, cheap and very effective. I will use this from now on. Thanks all.

I've found that hydropel works REALLY well. Used it on my last two 50 milers with no chaffage.
