Hopefully the foot book will have
some specific refererences to your callus/blister problem.
If you are a member of the ultraserve list there are some very
experienced runners who could probably help you more.

Kitrin -

I hope you enjoy your time in NYS, the weather has been pretty nice for
this time of year. Based on what you have posted here re your running experience a couple trails do come to mind.

Green Lakes State Park
in Fayetteville, NY which is just SE of Syracuse. There is a very nice loop around the lakes, seems like it would be perfect for You ! I think its just about 3miles. A very lovely run and not too isolated if that's an issue for you. You can add on to that by heading up into the hills. There you will find some single track and a little more technical trail running but not too hard.

If you do some poking around in the Finger Lakes check out
Fillmore Glen State Park
located in Moravia , NY which is at the bottom of Owasco Lake SW of Syracuse but not too far really. From the website -
" . . . an oasis of cool, dense woods crowding into a long, narrow gorge. Its hiking trails offer spectacular views, unique geological formations, including five waterfalls, and a botanically rich glen." It's a great trail !

If you are interested in more technical stuff there is the Finger Lakes Trail which runs all through the area. Its great running. You can probably get more info on that from the Finger Lakes Running Club website.

If there is a specific area you are going to lmk and i will see if i have anything for You. I am not familiar with the Watertown area though.

Have fun, I'll be looking fwd to hearing all about it !!

[http://This message has been edited by runNYtrails (edited Oct-26-2007).|http://This message has been edited by runNYtrails (edited Oct-26-2007).]

I've been too tired, lazy, depressed after the VT50 to write a report. I also can't remember large chunks of the race as I was so internally focused that I missed alot of it. It was kind of a blur. I can tell y'all what the ground looked like in front of me for 50 miles!
I've been trying to get my training back in gear after fits and starts following VT. My feet are inflamed with a wicked case of PF in my right foot. I put em both in ice water for 10 minutes last night which I'm planning on doing for the next 1-2 weeks. So, tomorrow the plan is to hit my normal trails in the Wissahickon Gorge. I will bring my camera. I ran in there on Tuesday, though I had a fever and it was a miserable run. I staggered through the woods losing the trail a couple of times due to the leaves. Maybe I'll go out to Evansburg state park, a new place, and do my 4 hours there. Trying to keep my long runs up as I may run the Stonecat50 on Nov 10 just for S***'s and giggles then knuckle down for winter base building. RunNytrails, get your miles up bro and next year we can run the Fingerlake 50 together. You too Jesse as I think you're in the PA area too right? That's supposed to be a wonderful race. NY has got some real beauty and good races.
Kitrin, welcome and good luck. If you like to spend time in the woods, you can join our little sub-community. We started this as fledgling trail runners/hikers and welcome those who want to join. Bring your camera. I haven't posted any pictures yet but am definitely going to change that. We opine about the beauty on our runs, but pictures really spice things up. Give it yer all in your 5K. Don't quit! Push hard.

[http://This message has been edited by Gregolowe (edited Oct-12-2007).|http://This message has been edited by Gregolowe (edited Oct-12-2007).]

I have Morton's Nueroma in my feet (swollen nerves-ouch!) and bronchitis. I had flu like symptoms two weeks ago. Right hammie was on the verge of a big time injury. I could feel it comin. It hurt to walk for about a week. Thought it might be wise to stop running for awhile. The 50 miler put a much bigger beatin on me than I realized I think. So, I'm listening to my body and chillin. I'm jonesin' for some running though. Had some nice e mail correspondence with Anthony Krupicka about minimalist footwear. Karl Meltzer interacted with me too about his training. Kind of cool to be part of a sport where you can interact with the big timers...and they're cool. Good luck fattie in you HM. Hope you figure out the blister thing. Katie, sorry about the bag. Why don't you try goin barefoot? May help your knee too. As a side note, this thread could get unweildy if we keep using the same one. Just a thought.

The race starts at 7:00 a.m., and unless I completely bomb, I think I can finish in about 2:20. We're going to spend Saturday at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Haven't been there in about 17 years.

My bud, Karen and I also just signed up for our first official marathon. The Bizz Johnson, www.bizzjohnson.com.[/URL" target="_blank"> It's a flat trail run that's also a qualifier for Boston. We're hoping to be ready to try a 50k at Pirates Cove, but if not, then definitely Forest Park, which I believe her sister, Kate (katemd on CR), will be running, as well. We'll also probably participate in the Trinidad to Clam Beach Run in the 8 3/4, http://www.trinidadtoclambeach.com.[/URL" target="_blank"> They're not doing a HM this year, unfortunately.

Later!

----

Leslie
Running Behind the Redwood Curtain

It's a mad mission but I got the ambition. It's a mad, mad mission, sign me up.
******
Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you're alive, it isn't - Richard Bach
SeeMyProfile![/URL" target="_blank">
SeeMyBlog[/URL" target="_blank">

Sigh.

In light of this, I ended up pounding pavement instead of running a nice trail today. I have spent so much time on the phone trying to learn where my bag is that I ran out of time to run anywhere else. MAN! My knee hurts. I hope it gets better soon.

I only ran four about 40-45 minutes. Maybe it was a little depression over what is lost in the missing bag. Maybe it was running on pavement. Maybe it was because I did not run for a week. Whatever the case, I struggled and this was one of the most difficult runs I ever undertook.

From what I hear, a bad run is usually followed by a good one. I sure hope so. Do you have recommendations on where to find a good trail to run? I will end up all over (Watertown, Syracuse, maybe Fingerlakes). I will see what I can find on the web too.

My husband and I are thinking about staying somewhere in the wine country near the Fingerlakes during the weekend of 2-5 Nov. I remember you mentioned good trails out there too. According to the long range forecast, it looks like I will have to pack some running clothes for cooler weather.

Cheers,
Kitrin
