The Headwaters is absolutely beautiful, with a really old redwood grove at the end. We haven't gone that far yet, but hopefully next weekend. It's 11 miles round trip, almost all uphilll going, so it's a blast coming back out.

Have a great weekend!

Edited to change mileage from 5.75 to 8.5, 'cause I remembered we went at least a mile (but I think more) past the only mileage marker - 3 miles. I didn't think 5.75 sounded right!

----

Leslie
Running Behind the Redwood Curtain

It's a mad mission but I got the ambition. It's a mad, mad mission, sign me up.
******
Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you're alive, it isn't - Richard Bach
SeeMyProfile![/URL" target="_blank">
SeeMyBlog[/URL" target="_blank">

[http://This message has been edited by fatozzig (edited Nov-17-2007).|http://This message has been edited by fatozzig (edited Nov-17-2007).]

Good Luck in yer 1/2 M this weekend, hope you enjoy and meet your goal.

quote:

Question: How much of your identity is wrapped up in being a runner generally and in being a trail runner more specifically?

Interesting topic
Gregolowe
. I must admit that i run for the pure n selfish reason that it brings me great joy. I run trails b/c they are the frosting on the cupcake. (Chocolate frosting that is !) I spend far too much time thinking about running, reading about running, planning events and actually running. I am the first to admit ... my life is definitely out of balance. However, I am too lazy to do anything about it and nothing else has been such a reliable source of pleasure !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

It is only really now, being injured and unable to run, that I am acutely aware of this. But I was due some 'down time' so i'm not complaining ... just cross training so that i am still able to run when the day comes. Which will be sooooon, I hope.

As far as identity ... that's a tough one ... I dont think I pursue this as a means of identity. I dont see myself as a "real" runner anymore ... based on pace alone i wouldnt qualify ... and also the type of events i choose to participate in. I'm not really sure how others perceive me, I'd be afraid to ask ...

[http://This message has been edited by runNYtrails (edited Nov-07-2007).|http://This message has been edited by runNYtrails (edited Nov-07-2007).]

My friend went south to the Bay Area for a football game tomorrow, and since I've been sick all week, I just wanted to take it easy. So I ran down the road, but next to pasture lands. It was real pretty with the low hanging fog, the clouds over the hills, and the sun rising behind the clouds, making the top edges glow like crazy and with sun beams spraying out over the tops.

Did 8 miles, and it may have been a wee bit too much coming off a week of sickness (actually, almost an entire month). Also ended up with a blister in my arch. sigh Blisters are plaguing me, but I think another problem may be that the orthos aren't wide enough, and my feet are rubbing on the edges. I'm considering canning the custom orthos and finding something else. This pair has been a real pain in the a$$.

Monday starts a whole new 3-month schedule to prepare for a 30k trail run in March. Lots of speed work and hill work. . . . g r e a t . . .

Let's see if this works. Please let me know if the photobucket shows that you're logged in under my name. I spent the day in Stowe. The wind was howling and it was cold-in the teens-so I was a wimp and only skied one run. I waited until the afternoon to go for a 5 mile run on the rec path which was a little challenging being covered with ice and snow. Great pics
fatozzig
. I especially like the mushroom photo !

My friend and I visited the Catskill Mtns last week in New York State. We did some great hiking and a wee bit of trail running. Weather was great the first day, cold but clear n sunny skies. Day two brought clouds and a lot of rain ... along with the cold. The trails were both out and back trips up to the summit and then return. Both routes were quite rocky w/ some real technical areas and many creek crossings. There were also some easy sections where we couldnt resist a little running to keep warm. The whole Catskills area is very beautiful and we are excited about returning to do some more of the many, many trails there.

Here are the links to photos from each trail if you are interested -

http://s227.photobucket.com/albums/dd282/runNYtrails/Overlook%20Mtn%202007/?[/URL" target="_blank">

http://s227.photobucket.com/albums/dd282/runNYtrails/Peekamoose%20Mtn%202007/[/URL" target="_blank">

fatozzig - i just copy and paste the url for each album to make the links to the album. hope that makes sense.

I told myself that I would not push too hard and went for several trail walks/hikes instead of running. I finally did a 2 mile run at the HS track this past weekend and took it VERY slowly. I am pleased that I did it.

I still have that problem with my right knee going sore and stiff at about 1.5-2 miles. I wish I could stop it. I experimented with changing my running gait this last run and that seemed to help some. Perhaps this is the result of mechanical problems (sheesh, sounds like I am talking about my car). I plan to try some new things on my next run and see if it helps.

Zig, I am so impressed by your 5K time (and PR). I was happy to run 35 and change on mine a couple months ago.

Kelly, great job improving your time too. You are running 6K faster than I run 5, LOL! You may have been 80 out of 91, but I bet I would have been last.

I have a CRAZY BUSY week ahead of me, so I may not post until the weekend. I do not plan to be as scarce as I have been the last few weeks.

Kitrin

I had a beautiful day in CT-62 degrees and sunny! I went for about a 9 mile run at an Audubon center Thursday morning by myself. Sorry, no pics-didn't even carry any water. The only thing I carried was shirt tied around my waist because it was warm enough to!

Nice to hear from Greg too!-bummer the running isn't going well. I think you not only have to train to build up the miles; you have to train your body to recover as well. So hang in there Greg and keep up with the weights like you're doing and slowly add in some running. I know it's boring but the treadmill is a soft surface-you need the cardio to help burn off the whiskey belly. I'm a personal trainer and that's my free advice !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone!
