Just hoping my HM run was not some kind of crazy fluke. 1 day per mile for recdovery definitely puts me into next week....phew. Plus I'm having a small toe issue now - ugh - posted a question about it on the regular board as I didn't want to bore anyone to tears here.Long story short I think the nail just got bruised but boy does it hurt

I live in Manhattan ! so I was running in that 90% ( it was acually 95% according to the race stats ) humidity - I have no idea how I did it either - It was a qualifier for the Marathon next year - that leaves me one more race to do !! it was "only" 4 miles - I`m just glad I didn`t have to do my 10 mile long run today !!

Hey everyone!

Finally got back into it today after running HM last week. Also had a nice day off from work yesterday so it was really nice rest. Figured having never done those long miles before last week I could certainly use the rest! I think that was right b/c my legs still felt a little heavy - ugh. Is that normal after this long or was last week's mileage just a fluke?

Spicegeek - I have no idea how you ran in today's humidity. It was over 90% humidity here in the NY/NJ area - wanted to run outside but by the afternoon my decision was made for me! Did 3.5 on the treadmill and I don't know if I'm officially converted to outside running now or b/c I'm still tired from last week but it was a little bit of a struggle. Oh well still feel good that I did it.

Still trying to figure out this schedule thing though - most of you replied that you're morning runners although Runjr and Reeb I know you guys said you run at night and Spicegeek you mentioned that night is what you prefer. I swear I sound like the typical person making way too many excuses (ok I probably am) but mornings may be rough unless I'm going to start running at 5am - ugh - sorry all you morning runners - I dread the thought! And even that may not get me to work in time as I commute into the city each day so it takes a little while. Evenings are good but it's already getting darker early and I hate running in the road/traffic. I much prefer the park - unfortunately most by me close around dusk but I'm trying to see if there any nearby with lights or something which lets them stay open later. Oh well I'll figure something out just have to stay motivated! Spicegeek - I might do like you mentioned and just do my shorter week day runs on the treadmill if I have to. Macd I think I'm now spoiled from running outside and dread the thought of going back to the treadmill going forward. MIGHT try to do a morning this week and see how it goes. If there are no replies from me later this week it's because I ran into traffic while trying to wake up!

Chilidog - I think the gel I had at the VA HM was strawberry banana or something like that. It was very sweet but not terrible. But as I started to allude to my gel story in an earlier post, I ripped the package open and was tired and sweat so of course it didn't open all the way. So by the time I got the gel out I think I had more on my hands and face than in my mouth!

Ok well hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! - Jess

Humidity is so much harder to handle for me than almost any other element outside.

Misswendy: 17 miles. I can only imagine. Wow. I hope stress isn't impacting your sleep. Get your DH to run your shoulders & neck - it tends to be where I wear mine.

Runjr: I'm going to heed your advice to Teabag re: pacing. I tend to run same pace everyday - I have a hard time switching it up. I'm feeling a little worn down (in general). Okay, my iPod has everything from hip-hop to pop to rock to alternative to motown & even stuff from 70's & 80's. I will admit to having three versions of one song on there that has earned me more scorn from DS than is probably fair - "Dancing in the Moonlight" by Harvest Moon. I can't explain it but it must remind me of some amazing time back in 1973 - when I was all of 10 years old and life was simple & fair.

Reeb: Good luck on 10 today. Have fun in CA.

Cara: I agree with Spicegeek on taking day off. Deadlegs, hmmmm. I had them on Thursday after run & Wednesday night's race training. It felt like ankle weights. Yesterday was my day off. Moderation is always an issue with me.

Gail: I can't believe you did 8 with a head cold. I lived on claritin here most of the summer because of seasonal allergies. It got me through it but it makes my skin tingly (is that a word?) with a pesky case of irritability thrown in. Thankfully for DH & DS, season is over.

Joe: I'm going to buy the garmin 305 - can't get the 405 because of the mac os X compatibility issue. I can't wait - I'll definitely have it by next month & HM on Oct 19th. This month's cash goes towards car purchase for cherubic offspring.

MacD: Great job on hills! We don't have many around here and I tend not to intentionally seek them out

take care, dari

BRUTAL humid here in NY - it didn`t rain - I wish it had - I wouldn`t have been any wetter at the end but I`d have smelled better !! I rang the sweat out of my "dri-fit" shirt - finished in 40:47 - I was hoping to break 10mm pace for this race but as soon as I stepped outside this morning I canned that plan - I did run under 10 but stopping for water twice wiped out that ! I survived what can we say !!

LOL. great job keeping the running while out of town. a run like the one i had today is discouraging, but later on it will pay off i'm sure. it reminds me to pay more attention to what i am eating and how much i am stressing. those things matter a lot.

reeb....my friend gave me a tip on water breaks in races: squeeze the cup almost shut on one corner and suck out the water/gatorade. less chance of spilling. of course, i was had to practice this technique ahead of time! haha good luck on the race

spice....way to punch it out girl. cant wait for the race report!

joe...extra sleep, cool temps, and neg split! wow its your day today!!!

love to all

hope no one is dealing with hanna.....
