Little things like what this forum looks like and how it functions shouldnt' affect your overall opinion of this site, there is still the same amount of quality information from personal experiecnce out here.

ANYWAYS

I can run again!!!!!!!!!!

1st off, breaking a foot puts into perspecitive how much i relied on running EVERY DAY, and for instance, something little like this forum should NEVER make me angry or mad. You can't change it so suck it up!

I was 3 weeks using crutches, plus two weeks walking around with the walking cast and gradually adding in walking around my house without the cast. and After exactly six weeks I was discharged. I have a bump where it broke that needs to file down, will eventually. and had plantar fascitis (sp?) that Im still working on. After a month with a broken foot I went to physio to get any probelms ironed out so I could get back to my life ASAP once the cast was off. I was able to bike 6 times per week for variable efforts (thats three seasons of the show lost on DVD ps.) , strength train in my fitness class four times per week and during my last week in the cast began wrestling practice....slightly since I could hurt my partners. After 8 weeks I was able to walk without a limp, still had some plantar fascitis problems, but started on a walking/running plan. I started with hour walks every other day for a week, then began with 3 x 1's. As of now (Im in the second week of the program and yesterday ran for a total of 1/2 hr with 10 x 2's) I am soooo happy and excited. Today, I had my first wrestling tournament and came fourth, and Ive been curling 4 times a week since the day I got the cast off.

Life is good and thanks for all the exercise Ideas and support guys! Ill be in top shape by track season

I was on a strength training plan in my fitness class, but when I broke my foot I've just been doing all core and some leg lifts and stretching in that class. I gave up on arms because all my classes are on third floor and after that class I have to hop all those stairs and my arms give out if they are already exhausted. I like how you gave exercises to simulate running I'll try those no matter how ridiculous I may look, I already get weird looks cause I still work out with a broken foot. I can't ride outside because of the weather and I'm honestly afraid I'll fall off and rebrake my foot even though that's unlikely. I"ll look into the spinervals, but possibly only near the end of my sentence in this boot since right now I can only put pressure on the heal. That pushup thing looks interesting, it's six weeks long maybe I can incorporate that some how. Thanks guys, it's not too much at all.

It's a DVD series with some killer workouts for stationary biking. Haven't tried it myself, but I've heard it's good. Personally I've never had a problem with boredom on the cross trainer (mine has arm pusher handle things as well as pedals). I just crank up the headphones and go hard enough to work up a sweat.

The other thing I've recently gotten into is pushups.

Well, for biking you could do what you said. If you can lift, ( i don't remember if you said you could ) you can do leg press with low weights, leg extensions w/ low weights, and basically all legs things. (just don't over do it) Now here is an important thing, when you lift, do all of your sets, than lower the weight by one third. Do all of it over again. Than a third of the third. This is called exhaustion. It will help with endurance alot. For your arms, will not need so much attention, you sit flat on the floor and swing your arms like you would while running. Than add some weights, like 2.5 or even 5 lbs if your feeling saucy. This will help your arm drive.

Now if you can't do lifting what you can do is (which you already know is) biking. If you can, ride outside. Some things to try are mile repeats or longer, but not longer than 2.5 miles. Fartleks are good too, usually 35 to 45 minutes will suffice or longer if you feel up to it (sorry if this is too much, i usually write these for guys). If you are riding outside, you can do accelerations. Which is biking at a moderate fast pace. I hope that this helps.

(btw, don't worry about grammar. alot of the people who i hangout with now don't do use it either)
