I've never had professional lessons. All I've learned is from videos, or from my friend Michelle who basically just showed me different pitches and how to build more speed. A double push is VERY important!

Pitching and catching is a must, yes, but the pitcher doesn't have to be pitching at phoenominal speeds to have her team medal. All she needs is good pitches and movement, a great screw (its hilarious to watch girls strike out over a high screw), low curve, great rise, and a great drop. My team took 4th at nationals, (my arm was hurt so our second string had to pitch), and she only pitches about 52 (we play 14U B ball. So a bit lower level. But its a bit speed for nationally ranked teams.). What you need is great fielding, having a great outfield is very important! Our center fielder can go from home to first in 1.63 seconds! And even more so, have a great offense. If you can't hit the ball, no matter what happens defensively, you won't win. You can have the slowest pitcher, but with great movement and still do great, and moreso, the pitcher will feel great about herself and leading her team to another victory.

I found a site that tought the knuckle ball for fastpitch, so I just tried this pitch with this player and to my amazment, it worked like a change up but better! Also her control was great with this pitch. The ball is held with the tip of her fingers on the threads with a gap between the palm and the ball. The ball is actually pushed forward (with the arm bent slightly at the elbow) and the tips of the fingers and thumb with the same arm speed rotation as a normal fast pitch.

Or...we have a lot of exceptional pitchers out there. My daughter plays for the Texas Sting 12U and has reached 61 mph with her fast ball. We have another pitcher on our team who tops out at nearly the same speed. I do think these are exceptions, as I have noticed the teams we face rarely have pitchers as fast. I'm glad I don't don't have to hit gainst them!
