How Do You Count Cross Training Mileage?

For those of you who cross-train, how do those miles translate to running miles for you? I took 2 months off from running earlier this summer because of plantar fasciitis and started mountain biking. I'm finally back to running about 20 miles a week, with a long run of 10, and 10-12 miles on the mountain bike. Does the biking mileage equal a 10-12 mile run? Or do you not count those in your weekly mileage? I'm trying to get my base built back up to 35-40/week for some winter 50Ks.

Thanks for your help.

[http://This message has been edited by KC1125 (edited Oct-15-2007).|http://This message has been edited by KC1125 (edited Oct-15-2007).]

trail shoes, might buy mailorder for first time

Hi,

I need some shoes for offroad running. I'm not an "Ultra" guy, but I do all my running on fields and through forests. I need some new shoes but don't really have much to choose from at stores here, so I'm thinking of going mail order and would really like it to work out on the first attempt, which is why I'm asking here.

Till now my only offroad shoe has been my Nike Jagged Ice, and they've served me well, but they're a winter shoe and too warm for the hot summers here. What I want is something for normal feet, stone protection, good tread, breathable, neutral, minimalist features but robust.. Doesnt have to be super lightweight. Salomon seem like they'd be good, but there are so many other brands out there... I'd appreciate any reports, opinions,

Thank you all,

WG

50k one month before BQ atempt???

Since I will have to run the 50k slow, will this reverse some of my speedy Boston BQ workouts?

2) Usually you should do your longest long run before the marathon 3-4 weeks away. Since this 50k is 5 weeks away, will I have to run another decent sized long run before the marathon or should I just taper for the whole 5 weeks?

Thanks for the replies!
