a thought came across my mind while watching the movie (and sorry I do think as a Race Director quite often)

Are the pople who "starred" in this movie people you'd want to meet?

Would their appearance at a race be a draw? Any different than Bingham or Bill Rodgers?

DIDN'T 'THE MOVIE" JUST CREATE NEW EVERY-MAN RUNNING CELEBRITIES

Anyone have contact info for the production company or any of the featured runners?

PS D.Drossin should have her own cooking show!

Deena Kastor – 2004 Olympic Bronze Medalist – As a professional runner for more than a decade, Deena has set numerous American and world records but never attained a marathon victory. A 2004 Olympic Bronze medalist in the women’s marathon, Deena set her marathon sights on the Chicago Marathon before trying out for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Leah Caille – First-time Marathoner – Picking up the pieces from her failed marriage, single-mother Leah found herself at an all-time low. Leah regained health and happiness by joining a running program and completing many races before deciding to train for and run the Chicago Marathon.

Gerald “Jerry” Meyers – Four-time Marathoner – Jerry has been a runner since the 1970s but never ran a marathon until he was 65. He races in the Chicago Marathon at 70 years old with his 40-year-old daughter who was inspired to train for the marathon by her father’s marathon accomplishments.

Daniel Njenga – World Class Marathoner – A native of Nyahururu, Kenya, Daniel lives and trains in Japan where he is a two-time winner of the Tokyo International Marathon. Daniel has finished in the top three in the Chicago Marathon for six consecutive years with a personal best of 2:06:16 which ranks him as one of the all-time fastest runners in the world.

Lori O’Connor – First-time Marathoner – Lori, a Northwestern University student persuing her doctorate in sociology, trained for four months to race in the Chicago Marathon while raising funds for Genesis of Pittsburgh, the non-profit adoption agency that matched her with a family as an infant.

Ryan Bradley – Boston Marathon Hopeful – Ryan’s participation in and completion of the Chicago Marathon will ultimately help him reach his goal of running in the Boston Marathon – a goal he previously missed by 11 seconds. Cameras follow Ryan as he trains for the Chicago Marathon and ultimately experiences the marathon in a way he never imagined.

I'll go first...

I identify with Ryan the most, since last year I was training for the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon with hopes of running it with my brother who was traveling out here to run the race with me and I ended up sidelined with Achilles tendonitis from over training. So I cheered him on as a spectator and it was a very difficult experience though I must admit, I learned so much from going through it all and it ultimately introduced me to the sport of triathlon. So, what about you??

Did you hear there is an encore presentation of the film taking place on Feb. 21st, 2008.

These people are intense! Has anyone done a Marathon?

Has anyone been able to buy tickets to the 2-21 encore yet?

I have been trying to buy them all day. My local theater is one that will be showing the encore, but Fandango knows nothing about it. It tells me the showing is set for 2-21, but showtimes are not. Also called the theater and the person there said the movie is not showing up on thier computer. Frustrating since I really want some tickets!

What is better than a movie about marathoning and popcorn? Life is good and this movie was excellent. I had the chance to see it last fall before my fall marathon and I left the theater with a bucket load of motivation. It shines the light on what it takes to train, prepare and show up on race day whether you are an elite athlete or an every day mortal marathoner. Be sure not to miss this one!

Really inspirational, injected with lots of humor, and did I mention inspirational? This movie certainly wasn't a 'how to run a marathon' documentary - it wasn't informative in that regard, but it was very well done. The audience cheered a few of the participants on because it was just so engaging! It has made me once again catch the marathon bug. I can't wait to start training for my 3rd! Enjoy!!

I saw Spirit of the Marathon for the second time last night! It is a fabulous film. The participants were "real": met spouses, saw their homes, viewed their children. The photography was beautiful and varied...........from desolate, primitive Kenya to big city Chicago. My husband & I absolutely loved it and will plan to see it again 2/21. Our daughter runs with Leah in the film which makes it very special for us. You CANNOT miss it!
