How do you get in shape for ski season?

I live in California and don't get up to the mountains to ski that often, but I do have a few trips planned this year. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get in shape--and stay in shape--for skiing and snowboarding? I am specifically looking for exercises that will strengthen my legs and knees, and help get my body ready for the slopes.

Thanks!

Left hip pronation-makes running hard!

Hi there. I am fairly new to running. Started in May '09. Since then I have run several races, plus a half marathon. My problem is this: my left leg pronates in towards midline so that midway through running(any distance) my left knee and foot are hitting my right leg and foot. Its almost as if I have no control over my leg, making ti hard to run. I have worked out consistently for 2 years, inlcuding weight training. Any ideas or exercises I can do to remediate this problem?

Thanks!
