I heard that some event directors are trying to "green" their races. Has anyone participated in a green race or do you have any recommendations for a good one?

I never thought about how many water bottles I go through a week until I started hearing about the green movement so I started paying a little more attention. One week I decided to count how many water bottles I went through and to my amazement the number was over twenty in just seven days! I work out a lot and usually just grab a bottle and go or grab and bottle and speed off to work.

All of these bottles really add up and I realized I could make a major difference in the environment and my wallet by refilling a water bottle instead. So now I actually use all those water bottles I've collected from events and what not throughout the years. It's making a big difference!

Buy a reusable container and fill it with tap water, a great choice for the environment, your wallet, and possibly your health. The EPA's standards for tap water are more stringent than the FDA's standards for bottled water.

VeloNews recently reported that the cycling team Kelly Benefit Strategies/Medifast is wearing jerseys made from 47 percent recycled fibers. The jerseys are made by the company Mt. Borah , which manufactures them in Wisconsin. They claim that using post-consumer and post-industrial waste to create the synthetic fibers is more environmentally friendly than using natural fibers like bamboo because it requires less fuel and energy to produce.

Pretty cool!

Second-hand Equipment

I've bought gear and equipment second-hand but I've never sold any since I usually just give it to someone else in the neighborhood. I think I could save a lot of money and probably help the environment if I actually sell these items back instead of giving them to someone or throwing them away. Any ideas?

Light Bulbs

I found an amazing statistic the other day while cruising the internet. Apparently, if every household in the United State replaced one regular light bulb with one of those new compact fluorescent bulbs, the pollution reduction would be equivalent to removing one million cars from the road. Yes you read that correctly...one million cars!! That's a pretty easy way to help the planet without doing much.

I am not sure what the difference exactly is between these light bulbs but it seems like a great way to start making a difference.

Does anyone use these? After reading that statistic I'm going to go replace the bulbs in my house, but curious to hear if anyone has any feedback about them.

How can I make a difference?

I'm looking to purchase my first hybrid car. Anyone have any suggestions? I like the Honda Civic hybrid, but are there other hybrids that get better gas mileage? Any advice would be great. Thanks!
