Houston Aeros Military Night

On November 22, 2008 the Houston Aeros honored servicemen and women with Military Night. Dillon Cannon of Sugar Land, TX dropped the ceremonial puck for the evening's game against the Worcester Sharks. Prior to the game, Dillon was given a tour of the Toyota Center and an autographed Minnesota Wild jersey. He even managed a picture or two with the Aeros Dynamics!

Dillon, pictured above with his mom Patti, was an Army Military Police stationed in Baquaba, Iraq and sustained injuries while guarding an IED as a result of a sniper bullet. He is a regular attendee during the Impact A Hero weekend and is one of the great heroes we honor and raise funds to help support every year.

Impact A Hero volunteers were also on hand to help raise awareness of the organization and its many benefits for our wounded heroes.

The evening also featured a ceremony for new recruits being sowrn in to the service of our country. We wish them all the best!

Over the past four years the Impact A Hero 5K has raised funds to impact over 5,000 Heroes and their families. During this time we have seen numerous wounded heroes, several returning year after year to remind us of the sacrifices our military makes each and every day. We have observed remarkable progress from injuries and heard their inspiring stories; this message board is the place to share yours.

In addition to your stories, we will share with you several experiences our wounded heroes have been apart of over the last year.

For me, this was the first 5K race I ever competed in and was moved to see and hear about these brave men and women. While my 5K times have come down every year during this race, my involvement with the organization has continued to grow. Being on the organizational committee this year is a great opportunity to help our wounded heroes find the support they need. Hopefully Ill enjoy a new PR as well!

Here are a few things to know about this forum:

HOW DO I CREATE A THREAD?

When logged in, click "Start a thread" or "Ask a question" located under the Actions menu on the left.

HOW DO I RESPOND TO A MESSAGE?

You can chose to "reply to the original post" or any individual response by clicking in the "reply" button in the bottom right corner of a message

HOW DO I TURN ON/OFF EMAIL NOTIFICATION ALERTS?

This functionality is accessed through your My Active profile. Next to your display name at the top of the page, click the link to your own My Active profile. (If there is no link, you're probably not logged in). Click the "Email Notifications" tab on the far right. Click the box next to the message and then click "Remove Selected Notifications"

HOW DO I EMBED PHOTOS/IMAGES INTO A POST?

From Firefox and Internet Explorer:

1. Click the "Insert/edit image" icon in the toolbar on top of the text editor window

2. Click "Upload Images" to browse your computer and select your image/photo to upload

3. Click "Insert"

4. Click the "Preview" post tab (above text editor) and you should see the pic

5. If pic looks good click "Post Message" or "Post Reply"
