Running Flats for a 1/2 marathon or more support/cushion?

I've have completed two sprint triathlons using running flats since it wasn't a long run. Now I plan to train for a 1/2 marathon, but not sure what I type of shoes I should use. I firmly believe support isn't always necessary everyone, (I sometimes jog using the vibram finger-five) and can actually lead to injury when the support is eliminated, but now I am considering a distance i've yet to conquer.

Would it be a smart move to use a pair of shoes with more cushion or keep going with race flats??!!

Thanks!

Shoe Wear Patterns

Just bought a pair of Nike Pegasus about a month ago; might have 120 miles on them by now. Looked at the soles Saturday and noticed the same wear pattern I've seen on my last two pair of running shoes (both of those were New Balance). The front of my right front shoe<del>up near the toes</del>is completely worn down. Everything else is good, literally good as new on shoes that are, as I say, about a month old.

I was fitted for these Nikes by folks who told me what I basically knew: I don't pronate much one way or the other. The lady who fitted me did say, after watching the video thing, that I do appear to be a bit of a toe runner. My own observation is that I only really get on my toes when I'm pushing up a hill. But, be that is it may, I'm curious as to (a) why it only wears on the right foot, and (b) if I should be concerned.

Re (b) I would add that the only significant pain and soreness I've experienced has been on the right side. Nothing serious, but I do deal with the occasional hip soreness and the even more infrequent right knee pain.

Thoughts?
