Does anyone know where there are tryouts for 15/16 yr. olds in the south suburbs in IL?

Suggestions anyone?

I'm fairly new to Birmingham and I'm looking for someone to train with. I love baseball, I'm young and ambitious and would like to tryout for a team next season. But, my problem is finding a group or a league to attach to. Any help guys is greatly appreciated.

Did you turn the Red Sox/Rays game off before the comeback?

Can you believe it! I came really close to calling it a night in the 7th and then something magical happened. Ha. Well, really though...did you ever see that coming? One of the best comebacks I've ever seen and the Red Sox seemed so calm about in their interviews after the game.

Thoughts?

Can We Trust the Mitchell Report?

Put aside the fact that former Sen. George Mitchell has a blatant conflict of interest as a member of the Boston Red Sox board in investigating the effects steroids have had on baseball. Or that he was hired by the owners, and their appointed representative baseball commissioner Bud Selig, for the tidy sum of $2 million to carry out his investigation. Or that his report contains little new substantive information beyond four conversations with a disgruntled New York Mets clubhouse employee and the personal trainer for Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite. There is an element to his report, unveiled yesterday and fingering close to 80 former and current players as steroid users, that appears like little more than a $40 million witchhunt.

Beyond eyewitness testimony proclaiming future Hall of Famer Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite were injected with steroids and human growth hormone, the report is mostly hearsay and innuendo. Does a canceled check from a player to a clubhouse employee who sold steroids necessarily indicate that player is dirty? Can someone who is on the verge of federal prosecution really be a reliable witness? Can any report that does not include José Canseco or Mark McGwire as vital components to the steroid movement in baseball really be credible?

I'm not a player apologist. I think many of them took steroids and continue to do so today. But to call for anonymous drug testing as a solution to these problems, and then go public with a list of names that, fairly or unfairly, will forever trash the reputations of those athletes mentioned seems the height of disingenuousness. Many have said the report echoes the McCarthy communist witchhunts of the 50s. To quote a Bob Dylan song, "It's not dark yet, but it's getting there."

Rockies Pitcher Suspended for Performance-Enhancing Drug...What's the Deal?!?!

I don't know about you, but I am so sick and tired of learning that yet another athlete has gotten suspended for using performance-enhancing drugs. Ex-Rockies pitcher Dan Serafini was suspended Tuesday after his positive testing, which makes him the second player to fail for performance-enhancing drugs this season under the MLB drug testing program. Honestly, what is the deal with all these athletes? It obviously isn't just baseball either, but I don't understand how players continue to use performance-enhancing drugs after seeing what is going on with Barry Bonds for example.

What do you think?

Barry Bonds Indicted

Barry Bonds was indicted by a federal grand jury in San Francisco yesterday on four counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice. He is accused of lying when he said he did not know he was taking steroids given to him by Greg Anderson and lying when he said Anderson never injected him with steroids. If convicted on December 7, 2007, Bonds could face up to 30 years in jail. The truth could have set Bonds free in 2003, just like it did Jason Giambi, but Bonds had a different plan and will now face the consequences. Congratulations to baseball's all-time home run leader...you disgust me. I never thought I would say this, but I'm hoping A-Rod, who is one of my least favorite players, can break Bonds record. If anyone else is up for the challenge...I beg you to swing for the fences!

What are your thoughts?

Vote yes if you want the Red Sox to win. Vote no if you want Cleveland Indians to win. This is not a hard question. Read it over if you do not understand. This is also the time of the year to start working out for next season. I say run 5 miles a day and do weightligting every other day for 2 hrs. I mean 2 hrs of weight lifting not talking tarsh with your pals at the gym. Make the muscles burn,full range of motion. COMMERCIAL PHONE NUMBER DELETED swing a weighted bat 1 hr per day. Will bring up the bat speed and you will hit the ball 50 feet further in the spring.

"American Eagles" play in Aussie at the MLB Academy

There recently was a team of College players from the USA playing a tournament here against some of the select Aussie older Teenagers. A couple of young blokes from our PHL team made the one of the aussie squad and played in it.

FYI, The MLB Academy is where most Aussie kids get signed from for the Minors as we have no strong High school or College baseball system here. It is run Jointly by ABF and MLB.

Perhaps someone here knows of one of the kids in the American Eagles roster?
