I'm 58, slightly overweight (by about 20 pounds). I've been walking "briskly" on a treadmill at home - I never run - for over a year, with no problems. I wear NB walking shoes. A month ago, I started using the gym treadmill at my new job. It was ok until I started using the incline. My left ankle has been hurting for a couple of weeks now. It looks slightly swollen. i've used ice and am doing the stationary bike and rowing machine instead of the treadmill, but it still hurts to walk around. Is there anything else I should be doing? see the doctor? Give it more time? Stop all exercise for a while? I really love to walk.

I'm 52 yr old and in some what a good shape, over weight about 100 pd with a pacemaker. I want to start running/joggin and I have started walking and riding my bike to work about 4-5 miles 2 times a week. I walk 4-5 times a week 3 miles on my lunch hour and I lift weights 2 times a week. Now my knee is hurting and burning, I have ice it and cut back my bike riding to give it some rest for about a week. Now my knee seem fine and to get back to work again, but I do not want to injury my knee again. I do not want to lose my groove that I have going on!

Any advice on how to stay accident free while working out?
Body Image and Athletes

Body image has been a big issue in athletics for a long time. So many athletes compare themselves to others--and it's hard not to. But that doesn't get us anywhere.Nancy Clark's latest article on Body Image brings up some really good points, including the fact that "No weight will ever be good enough to do the enormous job of creating happiness."

I was never really content with my body...until I went to a nutritionist. She taught me how to listen to what my body wants and eat right. As soon as I learned that everything fell into place. Now I have plenty of energy, I feel good and I stopped worrying so much about what my body looks like compared to other people's.

I'm curious how other athletes cope with body image. Have you struggled with it and what do you do to get past it?
