2009 Races

Posted by Amusacchio Jan 8, 2009

Has everyone planned their 2009 racing season?  I just noticed that the Soldier Field 10 mile registration opened today, and that race (in addition to many others) sells out rather quickly.  This could be a good thing, forcing me to figure out my plans and goals for this year.

So it is close to the official start of winter, but you would think we were in the middle of that season based on the snow and the thermometer!  How about some cross training ideas for days when the treadmill is too boring and the conditions outside are really bad.  Swimming and biking are obvious, how does everyone feel about the elliptical machine?  The stairmaster is one of my favorites, but I can only take that for so long.  What are some of your favorite indoor workouts?

Hey guys, i just heard from Lindsay that she will be sending out a product request form this week to all athletes in good standing. The shipment of granola will then be sent out the 2nd week of December.

"Good Standing" means you have been submitting your race results and your breakfast recaps. If nothing has been received from you, then they will be withholding your 2nd shipment. So get those results, photos, and breakfast recaps in asap!

Also, we had a great time at the Pilgrim Pacer 5K yesterday. For those of you that were unable to make it please send me results from a 5k you've done this year so that i can submit results for everyone for the national Team Bear Naked Contest.

Thanks, Christine

Here are a few tips that I have learned over the years as a marathon runner:

Make Plans

Course Plan: Check out the course and know the terrain.

Goal Plan: Set 3 time goals, doable, acceptable and the best day ever.

Pacing Plan: Even effort or negative splits?

Transportation Plan: know when to leave, the route, allow extra time for traffic.

Shoe and Attire Plan: Know what to wear! Check temp per hour on race day.

Nutrition and Hydration plan: Eat dinner at least 12 hours before race. Drink 6-8 glasses of fluid the day before and stick with things that you are familiar with.

Personally, I like to eat a bowl of oatmeal with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter before a marathon. ( at least 2 hours before the start of the race) I know the course and mentally rehearse my race. I always seem to want to stick to even effort in races, probably because I am a very conservative runner and don't like to feel uncomfortable at all! ( My friends give me a hard time about that one!) I have my " mantra" and I say it during the race to keep me going when I get tired and I never stop or give up! It's much easier to recover from pain, then recover from quitting! I try to stay focused during the race and have fun!! I wish you all the best out there!!

Hi Team,

It has been requested that we each need to contribute more to the blogs. Please share some of your training tips, success stories, or eating regimen for training or before races. Getting some tips from other athletes participating in similar races can help all of us improve.

From me...

Training tip for triathlons: Get your longer, more strenuous workout done in the morning before work. This wakes you up to start the day, contributes to burning more calories throughout the day, and you have the sense of accomplishment that you have already completed that hard workout done.

Success Story: When competing in a longer race than you have ever done aka marathon, ironman. Take it out a little slower (on each leg for ironman) then see how much you have left in the tank at the half way point. In my experience, when hitting that halfway point i'm so excited to have more energy left. I start to pick off people that i want to pass through the 2nd half of the race/leg this totally boosts my confidence as i start passing people.

Eating regimen: i always have a banana and a bagel with peanut butter before a race. For ironman/ironman 70.3 i like to eat rasberry fig newtons during the bike leg for extra energy.

Also, it has come to my attention that Team Bear Naked hasn't had much media exposure. So for races to come, make sure you're getting interviewed/pictured and send in the media to Lindsay so you can get paid!

Thanks a lot

Just a head's up, I'm planning on coming in town on Sept 12th and was wondering if anyone was up for getting together for a light run along lakeshore on Saturday the 13th. Give me a shout if anyone is interested. My email is cmandelaris@gmail.com. I'm still recovering from a horrible Ironman day in Louisville so prob nothing too fast. Would like to meet some fellow team members if time and schedules permit. Let me know.

Also, I work for Flagstar Bank and if anyone is interested in volunteering and such let me know. My company is the key sponsor for the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon. I'd be happy to get information for you.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, i am the team bear naked Chicago's leader. First of all welcome everyone, it looks like we have a great group of athletes competing in the area.

Right now we're trying to compile a group of team bear naked volunteers/cheering section for the Chicago marathon. We can get some great pictures and cheer for those running.

I don't see a lot of other overlapping races, so please let me and the rest of the team know if you add to your race schedule moving forward. If you do see other team bear naked people at a race, snap a picture of yourselves together and send it in. The more we have the better.

It would be great to coordinate a few group training rides/runs/swims in the area. As i noticed this morning, after labor day weekend it is pretty dark in the morning and gets dark very early after work so having training buddies is more important now than ever. Please feel free to respond back with suggestions.

My first suggestion...Is anyone is interested in doing a brick training session next Saturday, September 13th at 8:00 AM? We could meet by the lake for a swim and then do a bike ride and/or run.

Also, this Saturday (9/6) i am racing in the Lake Geneva Triathlon. Nobody has it on their list, but let me know if you are going to be there. Registration is still open for this tri, so if you're free sign up and race!

Happy Racing!

Welcome to your personal blog designed for you and your market to collaborate over. Not only can you share success stories and talk about your favorite Bear Naked product here, but also build personal relationships with your market and maybe find a running buddy or two in your area! Your market may prove to be your biggest help throughout your sponsorship because they are experiencing the same things you are. Happy blogging!

Best Regards,
