The race went really well. I came in just under 2 hours and could hardly believe I ran that long. I walked just 1/4 of a mile around mile 8 but other than that I ran the rest. I clearly remember being proud of myself and relieved that I had completed but not feeling like I ever wanted to run that long again.
But, just last weekend I signed up for a 1/2 marathon after having a good 5K finish. I'm thinking I'm crazy but I'm excited, too.
My heel hurts a bit when I wake up but does not hurt when I run. I am trying to be good about icing it after every run but sometimes I forget. I am toying with the idea of trying the barefoot running shoes and I've begun to walk around without shoes when possible to see how my feet react.
Thanks for asking!
As a consistent short distance runner and having experience getting prolotherapy all over my body I am shocked at people icing their inflammed body parts.............it will become commonplace to pray for acute inflammation when the word gets out soon that R.I.C.E. treatment was wrong and had it opposite of what heals. I know this is upsetting but read about prolotherapy and how it attracts collagen to lay down on your tendons and ligaments and increase their girth by as much as 40%. Icing and anti-inflammatories reverse/inhibit all this. Remember, cortisone was used to keep star atheletes playing for the crowds, and the atheles pay for that later with incomplete healing...............icing is a myth, stimulate healing with a heat lamp and stretching, not with ice, ever.......unless you plan on donating the organ and are keeping it from deteriorating...........heat=energy=life...........vs...........cold=absence of energy=death
Ruth, that's excellent! My goal is a 10K and then a 1/2 too. You'll be my inspiration!

Well sign up and get training girl! LOL
Seriously, what I think motivates me the most is having a race to train for. Sometimes it's the thought of racing on the weekend that gets me out during the week to run.
