Aerobic ability for swimming

xpost from swimming-

f I am able to swim 2-3 miles on breaststroke no problem, but only max 50 yards of front crawl, does that mean that i have the aerobic ability but just that my technique with front crawl sucks??
I want to make sure what my problem is and tackle it that way.

Also, I really want to join a masters class, but frankly, I'll only be able to do the breaststroke drills since i won't be able to do more than 50 yards on front/back crawl. Is that going to be a problem?

Re: Aerobic ability for swimming
Greetings,

this has probably something to do with your ability to get sufficient air when doing breaststroke and not getting sufficient air when doing freestyle.

I have the same thing, don't let others irritate you. If you are comfortable with breststroke, swim breststroke. You will not loose too much time on the swim leg of a triathlon anyhow.

Also, join a masters class, tell them about your problem and they will teach you the proper technique for freestyle (unless you refuse to learn and WANT to swim breaststroke, like I did;))

Regards,

Stefan

Re: Aerobic ability for swimming
This is most likely a problem with technique. I would definitely look into getting a coach and/or joining a masters team.
