Re: Calling all Penguins (slow runners)

Made the sad mistake of taking my partner to my Drs appointment with me. He said my salt levels could be lower (what American's couldnt be?). Now I have meal plans with all of my daily calories, fat intake and nutritional values all graphed out for the next three weeks. I think she needs a hobby... just saying. Jeez.

Any-hoo have a mud run in two weeks! Weigh-in to follow.

    Stay waddling my friends.

As penguins, we may be slow but at least we are well dressed for the party.

Go, penguins, go. No time to keep up individually with everyone, but it makes me so happy to see all the running going on. We waddle and we rock!!!

    Flippers up, everyone! Penguin on!!!

    I know...blink & there's 10 more pages of awesomeness!

Are there any penguins in the NYC metro area?

I just joined another running group thru Meetup.com, but I think I'll be a hinderance to everyone again (like I was in my previous Meetup group).

    Thanks.

Yeaaaaaah for all us Penguins!  I love logging on and reading about your successes , your upcoming races, etc.  I did my first 5K May 21, and will do another one this weekend.  Hoping to have a better time, something under 43 minutes.  I've lost 77 pounds so far, and feel so strong and healthy.  Rock on!

I've come up with something of a tagline for myself...feel free to adapt & use it...

Faster than a sleeping couch potato,

More powerful than another lazy excuse,

Able to leap tall curbs in a single bound,

    It's a tortoise,

    It's a penguin,

    It's..ME!!!

Re: Calling all Penguins (slow runners)

So is 9-9.5 minute miles considered slow or average? It may be hard to determine whether I'm a penguin or not until my runs are a little bit longer (since I only just today finished week 2 of C25K). My pace of running/walking the second and third day of W2 were about 12.5 minute miles. I imagine I'll just have to wait and see.I wouldn't want to intrude if I'm considered faster than a penguin.

In 2 and a half years, your feet can change a little--perhaps that's why you're getting blisters?  Your body can change in that amount of time and that can alter your feet as well. It's strange, but it's all connected.

I get blisters as well but find the trick is keeping my feet dry with the proper socks (I've found some good ones, but not 'perfect' ones yet).  I also tried running with those nylon 'footies' under my socks. I heard it reduces friction and it worked pretty well, too.

Walking still in rehab after a nice bout of Runners Knee (ouch). BUT it was a GOOD thing, cuz my Honey decided …. Sense I was “all slow again” he’d jump on board and join me.

So were a walkin, 14:05 to 14:35 .. We were supposed to start the Run/Walk tonight… but He started getting Shin splints : ( . So 1 more week walking with him Shortening his stride and walkin more center footed. Lets see how it goes…

My poor feet WANT TO RUN!

But my honey is making sure I don’t reinjure my knee..by keeping me slow.  (Ever try to catch a tornado on a leash???)    *GRIN*

So we are set for the Tinkerbell ½ in Jan, and I think We will add the SD Blood bank 10k in July …

Re: Calling all Penguins (slow runners)

That would NASCAR lapping in my world, but pace is individual.  I am far far slower than that - nearl 14.30-15+ min miles depending on the issue of the day......and I am not the twiggy type, but sort of in the the Clydesdale group - not sort of - I am in the Clydesdale group

but I think anyone is welcome - Penguin is individual and pretty social - band together and support one another - so welcome &  glad to have you Stephen......

You are just great! I haven't run in 4 days and it seems so hard to get going again. Work some days just wears me out and i don't exercise. Then one day turns into two and you know the rest. Tonight I was going to sign up for my first race after much indecision for the past couple of weeks and the computer just won't let me do it. Frustrating!!
