Shorts not along for the "ride"...

In the process of loosing weight and getting run times down I've run into a short conundrum. Now that it's hot (and humid in my area) shorts are the clothing of choice. For those of us with a little thigh, I know at least for me, I find myself on a run worrying about my shorts and if they are "riding" or inching to places they should not be. I've tried a few different kinds of shorts (no way am I getting into the teeny running shorts yet) and found some that work "just okay".

Has anyone run with the spandex type shorts under looser running shorts? Those who have much more race experience would this be an odd combination (I'm just vain enough to not want to look like a complete dork! haha). As I round into summer races I don't want to 1) be wearing pants or 2) worrying about adjusting shorts during a race!

I wear Under Armour 4" compression shorts under my Nike tempo shorts and it does the trick....the tempo shorts still ride up a little bit, but at least you got the compression shorts on underneath where it doesn't drive you crazy on a run.

I do it all the time! My favorites are Nike Pro, they are thin and seamless for the most part and I dont feel too bulky when I wear them under shorts. Also some companies make a 6 inch inseam running short, I know Nike does. I always go for the longer ones and spandex underneath. And you wont be the only one at a race with that combo on, I see it a lot.

Re: Shorts not along for the "ride"...

I have been a runner for over about 2 years now and wouldn't dream of not wearing a pair of compression shorts under my running shorts (I cut the under wear out of the running shorts). I have lost about 200 lbs and I find that they do a great job of keeping every thing where it should be. They also eliminate chapping and discomfort. My compression shorts are a little longer then the running shorts, but you really can't tell to bad till the running shorts start to ride up. At that point quite frankly I would be way more embarrassed not wearing the compression shorts then the fact that I'm wearing two pairs of shorts. Last year I was waiting to run a half and I watched a little runner girl "putting her self together" it involved all sorts of tape and anti chaffing (deodorant stick looking thing) stuff, and I don't think her routine was any crazier then my two pairs of shorts. I feel the most important thing is comfort, and some semblance of modesty.

Running skirts ladies! with real, built in compression shorts!

I get the Happy Hour skirt or Happy Girl skirt. They are a little longer, and have 7 inch compression shorts instead of the 3 inch (which tend to ride up on me). They are pricey - around $70, but they've made all the difference for my running and confidence.

    Runner since 2009.

I used to run to get faster, but got tired of pushing it, panting and feeling disappointed.

Now I run to relax and enjoy, around a 12:30 - 13:00 average pace.

Starting to get into trail running - way slower, but highly enjoyable.

Try to run 15-20mi per week and spin 4-7 times per week.

    Best race paces:

    1 mile - 10:12

    5K - 11:34

    4mi - 11:32

    10K - 11:15

    Half Marathon - 13:20

I wear New Balance running gear (they have many choices in XXL, size 18).

I wear Moving Comfort heavy duty bras.

I wear New Balance 769/760/860 for stability and cushion.

I wear New Balance 904 for trails.

I hate the look of the athletic 2" inseam shorts over tights, but that's just me.

I wear Nike capris for running  and I just ordered a "tall" skort from Athleta. It hasn't arrived yet, but I thought it might be good on really hot summer days where the capris are just too much.  The inseam on the "tall" version is suppose to be 6" and I have measured and think a 7" inseam would be better for my thighs, but have never been able to find those. I'm too short to wear "bermuda length" running attire. They just make my legs look even shorter.

I've been looking at this running company for a skort, but didn't have mental time to do it in December when they had a sale for Christmas.
