I am in if that's ok.
I was actually starting pre-couch to 5k work outs tomorrow.
I have never been a runner so this is going to be something else since I am 340lbs at the moment.
Are we going to check in on this thread or are you going to start an official thread on 6/20?

I am in. I technically started this past Saturday, but I am a 280 lb woman so I figure I will need to repeat weeks. I am already battling shin splints (a little).
Where are you from? I am in Minnesota.

Yay, welcome everyone! It's nice to meet you. I'm in South Carolina. And Pam? My name is Pam too! And I also weigh about what you do! I've not actually weighed myself lately.
I'm starting the official Couch to 5K next week, but I've been already doing a prep workout, so I'm sort of in the same boat as you too. I'm preparing to run a 5K on September 10th (12 weeks from now) that my friend is starting in memory of her daughter.
I've finished my second (of three) prep weeks. The first week I just walked my regular pace and alternated it for brisk walking for 20 minutes. Because I'm a very slow walker, and the couch to 5K says to briskly walk, so I figured I'd ease into even that. I can walk (my normal pace) all day, but the speed leaves me out of breath. I figure that probably means my leg muscles are good, it's my cardio vascular health that needs improvement.
The second week I added jogging, but just 'as close to a minute of jogging' as I could do, and after I would drop to my regular, slow pace, then go to brisk walk, then jog again.
This morning I'm starting my third and last week of prep. I'm going to do two minutes brisk walking, one minute jogging, one minute slow walking, two minutes brisk, etc, repeat.
Then next week I'll start the regular Couch to 5K. That'll give me two weeks 'cushion' if I need to repeat before the 5K.
Excited!

I'd like to join in, if that's all right. Last year I did a couch to 5K and actually ran a 5K, but then I hurt my hip and never really was able to get back into it so my weight's back up and I'm out of breath going up stairs. I'm 50 pounds overweight so it would be nice - especially on my knees - to lose some of it and not be out of breath when I walk up stairs.
I am starting on Monday June 20th, so count me in as well. Going in cold, having never been a runner in my life. I was a swimmer in highschool and have played a lot of basketball, tennis and racquetball over the years but in the last 5 years have done very little, mainly because I have 3 boys (ages 1,4,7). I need to get in shape, so I am ready to start the fun.
(you can call me Phil if you want)
( I am in Indianapolis, IN btw)

It's working out great for me - I'm doing run #2 in week 4 tomorrow - I did not believe I'd be able to run at all as soon as they said but it really does work. I finished the run on Wednesday (it's 5 min walk, then R3, W1.5, R5, W2.5, R3, W1.5, R5) and was so surprised - the pain i had in my ankles and shins from week 2 were basically non-existent. I'm so excited to get to next week. . .

Day 1/3 Pre-C25k: 1.55 mile walk in 30min on assorted terrain/hills. 10 min stretching both pre/post workout.
My fitness tracker stated I averaged 3.2mph with a rogue "burst" of 6.1mph max speed.
That was just me jumping out of the way of a passing SUV, because I did not run at all.
Tomorrow I am resting but will be back on the road Saturday for another 30min session.
Keep up the good work everyone!

Yesterday (Thursday) I did the first day of the last week (week three) of my 'pre'C25K workout. Like you, Danny, I started out week one just walking (alternating my regular pace and a 'brisk' walk for two minutes each), then last week I did normal walking for two minutes, brisk walking two minutes, jogging one minute, normal for 2-3 minutes, then brisk, then jog, etc.
Yesterday I briskly walked for five minutes, then stretched, then briskly walked two minutes, jogged one minute, walked slowly one minute, repeat for total of 15 minutes (plus 5 minute warm up walk equals 20 minutes). Then I stretched again.
I was excited because I sort of hit a 'stride' for the first time. That is, two of the four minutes I jogged I still felt like I could keep going when the minute was up, instead of thinking 'oh thank goodness, I can walk again!' haha.
I'll do the same workout tomorrow morning, then on Monday morning I'll elimate slow walking all together, but have 2-3 minutes of brisk walking, then one minute of jogging...
Then Wednesday I start week one of C25K! Looking forward to it!

Just wanted to check in with you folks. I liked for people further in the program to post when we were just beginning, so i thought I would return the favor.
You should all be really proud of yourself for taking on this challenge! Just remember why you started and support each other and you can do ANYTHING! One thing to make sure to keep in mind, is that anything you do in the program is better than the couch! Be proud of all the small accomplishments. Good luck!
I will be running W9D3 today. I NEVER ran before C25K, but always wanted to. Now I run at least a 5k each time I go out. I can't do it in 30 minutes, as I am VERY slow. But, like I said, better than the couch!
Happy running
Jeannette

Hey all I would like to join! I have been wanting to start this for a week now but I got sick and am now just feeling health again! I am not a runner and tried to be one on my own last year by training for a 5k. I did it, but with no support and no help on pacing myself... I did my first 5k last June for the Koman race for the cure and finished in 36mins... but as soon as I did it I think my mind set was (I did it, yay for me) I failed to continue... but it was hard, hard to do it alone. so I found this program, downloaded the podcasts now reaching out for support... I am also going to be doing this with the Vibram barefoot shoes... I have taken my puppy out for walks and have really ended up loving them... it really feels like I have no shoes on, yet my feet are protected from the ground. anyway I am very excited to start this and FINISH this... also to continue this. I have always dreamed of running in a marathon. I just need to take baby steps!
