I wish! My best 5K thus far is 24:10 and I would just like to get it under 24... maybe 23 if I'm lucky lol. Typically I don't run 7 min avg miles.... 7:30 is POSSIBLE. I usually run more mileage than a 5K so I avg more like 8:15-9:15 depending on the course and the day. I'm in the process of thinking I may not run 5Ks, maybe just 10Ks, long distance relays, and half marathons so maybe I'll toss in a 5K once or twice a year just to test whether my training is making me faster or not. I kinda like enjoying my runs, so running a LOT faster isn't first on my list. I figure it should come with time as I keep running and training.

This is my 2nd Season running and I just broke the sub 2 mark. Im expecting to break sub 21 next year. It would be awesome if I can break sub 20 for the 5k but Id rather get a sub-4 for a marathon or better yet a sub-3:30 for my marathon times.
At age 40 I doubt I will ever see sub-20, but I will definitely work my *** off to make an attempt.

Does 5K on a treadmill under 20 minutes count, or does it have to be during an event? Thinking to try this soon on a 'mill measured to be fairly accurate. Update: yay, 19:56.3 today -- now to do the same at next November's 5K Turkey Trot at work ...
Just Do It!
I hope we can keep this thread alive--this is a great way to keep motivated as we all chase down our PR's! My last 5K was 20:17 in June, and I was kind of frustrated that I didn't have a good kick at the end to push me through. I spent a lot of time thinking about how I could have knocked off those last 17 seconds... but it will happen eventually, though! Next 5K isn't until October, so there's plenty of time to improve. Good luck to the 20 minute-chasers out there!
Good luck to all those running races this weekend. I am finally out running again after a 2 month layoff. I will be running my first race in aug. I will be aiming to rebreak 20min. I found the biggest drops in time came after I started doing longer runs.

After being injured for most of the first part of the year and now the extremely hot weather here in Alabama, I believe I'll focus on speedwork next year. It's now less than 18 weeks until my marathon and after 5ks the next two weeks, I'll be focusing almost 100% toward the marathon. I actually regressed last weekend at the midnight run, when I ran a 24:24. What's worse is that the course was 0.1 mile short. However, my 5-mile training run on Tuesday morning was 40:09. Not sure how a 5-mile practice run was a faster pace than my 5k race, but I'm just glad I got my speed back. Maybe 2012 will be my speed year...
