Hi FPL310-
Yeah that sounds like the routine they do for FAI / Labrum Tear. What doctor suggested all that? Did you go see Dr. Kramer?
Any surgery is always a concern right but I think the shaving down the Head of the Hip bone is standard. A while ago when I thought I had this I read that something like 8 or 9 out of 10 people have growth on their hip like that. So I think shaving it down to fit properly will probably take it back to being normal. It's like the Big Round peg don't fit in the small round hole. But of course the doctor can answer that better.
Are you in Southern Cal?
If you haven't gone to see Dr. Kramer you should. As I mentioned he works on alot of professional athletes and he's the Team Doctor for the World Surfing Tour... And I'm sure you know who Kelly Slater is almost everyone does... he's pretty much the Michael Jordan of surfing and has 10 world titles. Dr. Kramer is a hip specialist and Kelly had the Labrum / FAI procedure from Dr. Kramer about 7 or 8 years ago and after that went on to win several more world titles and he's still winning world titles at about age 40. So you will be in Great Hands with Dr. Kramer. You obviously sound like a kick *** athlete and when you go into his exam rooms and the hallways you will see a ton of pictures of extreme athletes from surfers, skateboarders, motorcross pros on the walls thanking Dr. Kramer. And these pros, when they wipeout, man do they hit so hard they can really break apart. I'm a really athletic guy too so I appreciate seeing the Wall of Fame Pictures of all those pros giving their testimonials. So I was impressed by his Wall of Fame and being your a 6'0 - 200lbs Powerlifter, they will like you... I mean NOT many 6'0 200lb powerlifter girls walking around... I'm sure you'll be on their Wall of Fame too, haha.
As for me, I just had Sports Hernia Surgery about 1 month ago. Healing slowly... I was healing and feeling great until 2 weeks post-op when I had to pick up my mom from the airport and like a total MORON I just instinctively lifted her big suitcase into my car to help her and soon after I hurt really bad for almost 10 days and thought I ripped open surgery. But it's been feeling better so maybe I will be ok. I sure HOPE.
But the reason why I bring up my surgery is I was misdiagnosed for about 4 years from Hernia Doctors even Dr. Kramer. But to justify Dr. Kramer and don't blame his for not knowing, a Sports Hernia is NOT in his wheelhouse. And he recommended me to go see a Hernia Specialst who got it wrong too, haha. But a Sports Hernia is tricky to find and it does NOT show up on MRI's or X-rays so you have to find a very experienced Sports Hernia doctor and there are very few of them. I ended up flying up to San Jose to get it done by a really good specialist.
However I kept hoping it would go away and over the 4 years I think I damaged other parts of my body from the OverCompensation. I would give anything to go back in time and get the surgery right away. Sports Hernias do NOT heal on their own. They are NOT the same as a regular hernia and much more complicated. It's not even hernia it's more like a groin tear but they call it a sports hernia, kind of a misnomer. But now that I'm in recovery I just hope all the other problems I have from waiting so long... I hope I didn't wait too long and the new issues I have go away. So in your case too, I wouldn't wait too long. My problem was I kept going to Hernia doctors who kept telling me they didn't think I had a sports hernia and probably had a really bad strain and it would go away on it own. WRONG and I'm kind of mad at the world about it because from Day 1 when the pain really started happening 4 years ago and after doing research I concluded I had a Sports Hernia and I told every doctor I went to and they kept saying no they didn't think I had that.
Well it turns out they were All WRONG and it cost me 4 years and alot more pain issues developed in the past 18 months. Its kind of like when you have something wrong with your car and the mechanic says get it fixed or you could have alot more problems but you still do NOT get it fixed. Then like a year later it leads to like 9 more things breaking down and a HUGE BILL and you think damn IF I just fixed that first problem 9 months none of this other stuff would have broken. So after my experience if you need surgery, get it sooner than later.
Oh yeah, how did that Stem Cell Therapy go?? That sounds interesting.
